A tortoiseshell she-cat slipped from her nest, her green eyes adjusting to the light. Cookie looked around the familar yet unfamilar lawn. Her housefolk had decided to move here about 6 moons ago and Cookie hated it. She missed her mate, Sighingwind, and always prayed that he'd find her.
She bunched her muscles and launched herself to the top of the fence. She took a seat on top of her usual fencepost and looked out at the forest. Every day she would climb up and sit for hours just looking for Sighingwind. "Maybe one day soon he'll find me" she mewed to herself.

Hunger was an old friend of Sighingwind's. The long days of following the twisting Twoleg Thunderpaths had worn his paws raw and had allotted little time to care for himself. It had been moons since he saw his mate being taken away by her Twolegs. He had been determined to find her, but the Thunderpaths seemed to twist and turn and separated many times. He began to despair that he would ever find his love. As the sun rose in the sky, Sighingwind sat beneath the overhang of a dripping roof, looking out at the dotted patches of snow that glistened with spring fever. The tom let out a low breath, bowing his head. He was weak and hadn't eaten for three days. But he had no energy to hunt, so he figured a garbage can would have to do for now. He began to search for one, when suddenly he felt another presence. He turned and saw his mother, a beautiful cat that had once belonged to one of the four powerful Clans.
"I followed your advice, mother. I kept to the Thunderpaths and followed that star, so why haven't I found her yet?" He demanded, his eyes desperate. The image of his mother turned slightly, eyes seeking out something that only she could see. Sighingwind followed the trail of her sight and found it was directed at some distant Twoleg nests. Could it be...? Sighingwind, forgetting his petty meal, ran towards the nests, his sore pads numb against the excitement trilling through him. He paused in front of the nearest garden and looked up at the fence. With a graceful motion, the tom leaped onto the flimsy wood panels, his eyes roving over the various gardens. His throat seemed to swell and his heart skipped a beat when he saw her. She was just as he remembered, her fur soft and her eyes clear. Would she still care about him? Had she looked for him? Was she looking now? He began to approach slowly, cautiously, wondering if this, like the vision of his mother, was some cruel dream.
"Cookie?" He called out warily, his amber eyes focused on her face.

Cookie's green gazed was focused on the forest in front of her. She watched every day, waiting and hoping that she would see the familar form of her mate burst through the trees. She swore sometimes she would hear his voice coming from the trees, taunting her, now was one of those times. Still she looked towards the source of the sound like she always did and her jaw dropped.
There, standing a foxlength away was him. He hadn't changed much, he was a little thin but he was still her big and strong mate. She felt tears collecting in her eyes as she carefully padded over. She buried her face in his fur, inhaling the scent that she missed so much. "Sighingwind, you're finally here" she mewed into his fur "I've missed you so much."

A shiver ran down Sighingwind's spine at his mate's touch. He hesitated for a moment, then buried his nose into the soft fur of her neck, a choked purr escaping him as he drank in her scent, relishing their reunion. He closed his eyes tightly, fighting the stinging of tears. He backed away slightly, looking deeply into Cookie's deep, soulful eyes. He smiled slightly, almost convinced this was a dream.
"I've been searching so long..." He looked into her face, feeling his throat swelling with emotion. He brushed his muzzle against hers, sighing happily, "I've found you at last."

Cookie let a few tears fall from her eyes and land in Sighingwind's fur. She pulled back as she felt him shift. She met his gaze that was full of raw emotion. "I've been watching for you every day for moons" she mewed. "I was worried that I'd never see you again" she said "I'm so glad you found me." She placed an affectionate lick on her mates muzzle. "I love you" she mewed.

Sighingwind listened to her words and felt the raw emotion inside of him swelling like an ocean tide, strong and powerful with force enough to blow him away. He could barely find his voice. He struggled to even smile, all of the emotions waged so strongly in his chest. He looked into her eyes and hesitated before asking tentatively;
"And Sparrow...?" He was hoping he would get to see his kit again, too. But seeing Cookie was enough to content him. He couldn't keep himself from pressing against her, reassuring himself of her presence in the feeling of her soft fur.

Cookie snuggled closer to Sighingwind. She would be happy to sit there all day with Sighingwind, basking in his presence. She wished that Sparrow was there too, but he left.
"Sparrow left about 2 moons ago" she mewed. "The twolegs were going to give him away and I knew he wasn't happy as a kittypet so I taught him how to hunt and told him to run" she explained. "He left reluctantly, and I've only seen him once since he left" she said "and he was well."

Sighingwind let out a little breath. He was sad that he would probably not see his son again. But he was glad that he was safe, at least. And of course that he'd found his mate again. He could find no words to say to her, but the silence that stretched between them wasn't terribly uncomfortable. Finally he looked at her with a searching amber gaze.
"And you, Cookie? Are you well?" He asked gently.

Cookie sat in the comfortable silence, happy to be by her mates side once again. She could sit her forever, as long as Sighingwind was by her side. She let her mind drift back to their first meeting, when she was a curious kittypet and he was a mysterious loner. She smiled, she couldn't imagine her life, if that meeting had never happened.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by Sighingwind's voice. She met his amber gaze with her own forest green one. "I am now" she mewed, leaned closer and nuzzled Sighingwind's chest fur. She purred happily, a smile on her maw.

Sighingwind sighed happily, content with her answer. Cookie's gentle smile was enough to lift his spirits from the state of despair he'd succumbed to in the past few moons. He had been convinced it would be impossible to find her. But he had persisted, and now no words could describe the feeling that filled him as he felt his mate's warmth again.
"I love you, Cookie," he meowed shakily, "I love you so much."

Cookie looked up at Sighingwind, with tear filled eyes. She still couldn't believe Sighingwind was there with her. Those words coming from his mouth made the dam of emotions break. "I love you too" she mewed through tears. "I missed you so much, I can;t belive you're here" she choked out between sobs. She buried her head in his chest fur, and allowed her tears to gather there.

Sighingwind smiled, letting out a small breath that caused Cookie's whiskers to sway comfortingly. He watched them for a moment, then turned back to her eyes, his own amber pools glittering with emotion.
"I'm here," he mewed softly, "And I won't leave you again." He leaned forward and drew his tongue across Cookie's muzzle. He only wished that he could take her away from that nest, and those horrible Twolegs. But he knew it would be too much to ask. He knew she favored her comfortable lifestyle. And he would never want to do anything to make Cookie unhappy. But fear made him uneasy about her living among Twolegs - what if they took her away again? The thought caused his throat to swell painfully, blocking his ability to speak or even breathe normally.

Cookie smiled at her mate, her eyes sparkling with love, and licked Sighingwind's muzzle affectionately. She felt the urge to run free with her mate again, like they use too, just them and the trees surrounding them. Suddenly her gaze shifted to one of mischief and a matching smile appeared on her maw. She turned from her mate and lept from the fence, landing on the grass gracefully.
She looked up at him and smirked before dashing towards the trees. "Come and get me" she called. She continued running, without checking to see if her mate was following her.

Sighingwind's heart seemed to leap painfully in his chest when Cookie's warmth left him. His expression twisted into one of horror and panic, then he hesitated. He knew that Cookie just wanted to play. He told himself he needed to relax. But when he saw her moving away from him, he couldn't help but feel terrified. He leaped down the fence, rushing after her, not wanting her to get any farther away from him than she already was.

Cookie finally felt happy and care free again. She missed the feeling of running through the trees with her mate, nothing in the world but them. She could hear Sighingwind's pawsteps a few foxlengths behind her, and smirked. "Come on slowpoke" she called, picking up her pace slightly.

OOC: You like playing tag don't you Flameh?
BIC: Sighingwind rushed after her, hating each inch of distance that grew between them. He was stoutly built, so running was not exactly his forte. Even so, he barely noticed the terrible exhaustion that numbed his body and made his paws throb. All he could think about was catching up to Cookie, being by her side again. He didn't care that he was limping slightly, all he could think about was his mate.

((Apparently my muse likes making my cats play tag. & it all started when Ren & Sparky first played tag together, now its just become a thing.))
Cookie heard Sighingwind approaching, and slowed her pace. She finally came to a halt at the base of a tree, her chest heaving with every breath she took. She finally felt the exhaustion from running catch up to her. It had been moons since she had ran like that and it felt great. She allowed herself to collapse to the ground, laying stretched out on her side.

Sighingwind slowed when he saw Cookie lying next to a tree. He walked up to her, trying to make himself look happy, but his smile just ended up looking forced. He laid down next to his mate, tucking his muzzle into the nook of her shoulders.
"I wish you wouldn't run away." He whispered softly, knowing he was being absurd but not knowing what else to feel.

Cookie purred as she felt Sighingwind's presence beside her. This is what she wanted, just the two of them among the trees, the closeness again. She heard him murmur something and felt her smile fall. "I wasn't running away" she mewed "I never want to be away from you again." She nuzzled her mate, and purred deeply, trying to reassure him.

Sighingwind sighed, closing his eyes as he fought to regain his composure.
"It's scary..." He said softly, almost under his breath, "Seeing you getting further and further away. I just want to be by your side... I'm scared that we'll be separated again... Is that wrong of me? Is it foolish of me to think that way?" He asked, looking into Cookie's eyes with a pained expression on his face.

Cookie listened to Sighingwind's worries and fear. She felt a pang of guilt, for running from him like that. She looked into her mates emotion filled eyes. "It's not foolish to think like that" she mewed "I'm afraid of loosing you too." "And I'm sorry for scaring you like that" she said, placing affectionate licks on his muzzle.

Sighingwind smiled a bit sheepishly.
"I guess I need to learn how to take a joke like I used to." He meowed with a slight smile that looked more embarrassed than anything else. He sighed, looking into his mate's eyes, wondering what he would do if she was taken away from him again. The thought was horrible, and he didn't know what he could say.

Cookie smiled sweetly at Sighingwind's embarressed smile. "We've been a part for far too long" she mewed "you have every right to feel the way you do." She snuggled even closer to him, and just looked into his eyes. She had no intent on moving anytime soon, just content with lying there with her mate.

Sighingwind nodded slightly, burying his nose into the soft fur around her shoulders. He let her smell envelop him, lulling his mind into a peaceful state he had not experience in many moons. He had missed Cookie with every fiber in his being, and being with her was almost as heartbreaking as being apart - only this time his heart was breaking from happiness, if that was even possible. Sighingwind loved Cookie so much, it hurt to be without her, and it was almost too precious to have time to spend with her. He smiled a bit at the thought, the paradoxes that surrounded the cat he loved. He wondered suddenly what had happened to their kit. He would always miss Sparrow, that much was certain. But wherever the kit was, he was happy. Somehow Sighingwind was sure of that. Sighingwind glanced at Cookie with a more cheerful smile on his face.
"This feels so much like a dream... a wonderful dream..." He meowed gently.

Cookie let his presence calm her, and his scent surround her. Everything felt so surreal and too good to be true. She feared that it was just a dream, and that any moment she would wake up cold and alone in her nest.
"It does" she murmured in reply. She was hoping that this moment would last, but she had a nagging feeling that something was going to happen.
