Sunlight danced off of the roofs of the monsters gathered around the tom's den. He had lived in that shack for moons, away from the cats that lived in terror of his eye. He was a bulky cat with cruel yellow eyes and a cunning look always gracing his face. Moving through the gathering of Twoleg monsters, he saw two cats waiting for him with nervous expressions on their faces.
"Where have you been, Jars?" One of them demanded, his voice squeaking a bit with anxiety.
"Around," the tabby replied calmly. "And you, Scythe? Did you and Rook do as I asked?" The tom standing next to Scythe dipped his head.
"Yeah, we wrote that message in the sand to get the cats in that 'Clan' stirred up. We really risked our necks going in there, Jars. Are you going to live up to your end of the bargain?" He asked, his eyes narrowed. Jars snarled and swiped his claws at the tom, scoring a hit on Rook's muzzle. Blood welled on the scratches as the brown tabby tom hissed at Jars angrily.
"Don't get sassy with me, Rook. I'm the one that led you to that precious she-cat you're so bent to find again. She belongs to you. And the cat I'm after belongs to me."
"Are you sure this cat is the right one?" Scythe asked.
"Positive," Jars spat. "He looks enough like her. Well, regardless, I'm going to get my revenge, and once delivered I will seek yours as well. Now, keep an eye out. Our time to strike will not be far off. We must be vigilant." The two other toms snickered and followed Jars as he moved away from the monsters.

Lastsong padded past a serious of Twoleg nests. He didn't really want to go inside of any today, and he didn't have much of a reason to. He was going to his herb stash just beyond the edge of the Twolegplace. This path took him past the place he knew well and yet he'd never been there. His mother had lived there once, or so Lastsong's father had told him once. It had been moons since Lastsong had seen her. He'd been a young kit when she gave him to his father to be raised in SkyClan. A shiver ran up the tom's spine as he stopped and looked up at the nest without much expression on his face.

Siennapaw had been told to stay put, but that was not going to stop her. Not today anyway. She'd sworn not to let Lastsong out of her sight so she refused to do so. She stalked him quietly, trying to prevent him hearing her. It was hard to do though, and she was annoyed with herself. She hadn't practiced stalking enough, and it was getting tricky as she tried to stay close enough to help if there was any trouble. She stepped on a twig and stopped dead, holding back a hiss of frustration. 'Please don't hear me... Oh Starclan please don't let him here me...' She silently prayed. He would be very disappointed.

Lastsong flicked his ear and turned at the sound of a twig snapping. He narrowed his eyes and looked in the forest that flanked the Twolegplace. Was someone watching him? He was just about to call out and ask if someone was there when something slammed into him from his blind side. The breath left his lungs in a huge gust, leaving him choking for air as a massive tom dug his claws into Lastsong's neck.
"Hey there," the tom meowed with a slight smirk on his face, "It's been a long time." A shiver ran through Lastsong's body. He remembered that voice, and fear filled him like the air he was sucking into his lungs.
"Remember me? I'm the one that murdered your sister in front of your very eyes. And you? You're the little coward that sat there and watched it happen." The tom chuckled, earning a panicked stare from Lastsong. I was such a mouse-brain to think he'd forget me. Lastsong thought, trying to regain his composure. He at least wanted to die with some honor.
"And you're also the one that ran away like a dog's kit with its tail between its legs when my mother showed up," he snarled, although it was hard to get the necessary force behind his voice when the tom's paw was cutting off his air supply somewhat effectively.

Siennapaw held back a gasp and swallowed nervously. She couldn't just sit here, but fear froze her for a few terrifying moments. Who was this strange newcomer? She wanted to attack him, but she couldn't manage to make her paws work right that second. She just waited a moment, looking for a way to strike...

Jars snickered.
"Oh, a plucky one, are we? You turned out so like your mother. She was my sister, you know? Defying me and letting herself become a pitiful housecat didn't really pay off for her in the end, did it? Now every cat she loved is going to be dead."
"Why kill me? My mother's doesn't know me," The grey tom beneath Jars' paws pointed out.
"Ah, but you don't understand," Jars said with a smirk, [/b]"Killing you is for my own personal satisfaction. I never let anything that belongs to me slip through my paws. Not even a pathetic, sniveling kit crying for his mommy." The grey tom looked up at him with narrowed eyes. Then he suddenly kicked Jars in the gut, shocking the larger tom. Jars snarled as the cat tried to squeeze out from under him. Lifting a paw, he prepared to deliver a blow that would slit the insolent tom's throat.

Siennapaw launched herself with a roar and smacked into Jars' side, headbutting his ribcage in an attempt to at least get him off of Lastsong. She would rather die than have something befall her mentor.

Lastsong felt the weight of his attacker leave him, freeing the medicine cat so that he could get back onto his paws. He turned and was horrified to see Siennapaw. I thought I told her to stay in the camp! He thought angrily. But he had to be grateful of her presence for the time being, seeing as how she saved him. The dark tom turned on Lastsong's apprentice with a snarl. Lastsong launched himself at the rogue, swiping at his eyes with his claws.
Jars reeled back, avoiding his prey's feeble attempts to hurt him. Having another opponent wouldn't change much. But wouldn't it be glorious to kill one of the tom's friends in front of his eyes before finishing him off, too? Jars ignored his target and turned to the younger cat, leaping towards her with his teeth bared and his claws unsheathed.

Siennapaw knew this cat was probably far more experienced and she worried she would die before managing to save Lastsong, but to her credit she dodged nimbly, even if one paw left a nasty gash in her shoulder. She turned to face away from him and kicked back, trying to hit his face. "Lastsong run!" She called, hoping he might listen.

Lastsong saw the tom go for his apprentice and was too late to stop him. Foxdung! I'm not trained for this! He thought, panicking a little. When Siennapaw told him to run he let out a mirthless laugh.
"Yeah, right," he meowed, launching himself at the tom as he tried to avoid Siennapaw's blow. Lastsong managed to score a slash down the attacker's shoulder, causing him to turn his attention away from Lastsong's apprentice.
"You're faster," he said quickly, "Go get help or something!"
"Can't take me alone, coward?" The dark tom chuckled.
"I don't like violence much, so I'd rather not kill you. Even if you did kill my sister," Lastsong snarled.

"Lastsong I can't leave you!" Siennapaw said, her gaze momentarily averted from their opponent with the distraction.

Lastsong gritted his teeth.
"Why won't you ever do what you're told?" He snarled, feeling angry that he couldn't at least save his apprentice if this went badly. Lastsong knew he was no fighter, and this tom certainly was.
Jars was enjoying the banter between the two cats. It was worth getting a bit beat up if he could make his sister's progeny more miserable than he'd intended to. With a slight smirk he waited for the other cats to make a move, confident in his own strength.

Siennapaw looked at him with teary eyes. "You can hate me all you want, but I can't lose you. I'd rather die here." She said, lunging at Jars without warning. She scratched at his eyes, seeking to blind him.

Jars turned to beat off the young cat's defense but found it difficult to do so with the other tom clawing at his shoulder. With a low growl he turned on the tom and bit down on his neck, ignoring the young she-cat's claws and shaking his head back and forth to tear the tom's throat out if he could. He tasted blood in his mouth and grinned with satisfaction.
