Name: Shalestorm
Age: 25 Moons
Gender: Male
Clan: RiverClan
Position: Deputy
Description:
Shalestorm is a thickset classic grey tortie tom with dark and light accent markings on his face. His pelt is long-haired and very thick. The fur along his spine is a dark brown-grey sort of color that lightens as it nears his grey belly, and the fur around his neck is a light brown-tinted grey that hangs like a mane over his shoulders. Shalestorm's legs appear to be short because of his thick fur, but they are really of average length, as is his tail (though this looks longer due to his fur). His eyes are a deep green color and are an almond shape. His nose is short and turns upwards slightly. The color is also strange, since it seems to be more red than pink, which is the usual for cats his color. His ears are large but look smaller because of his (hairy) bulk. He has very powerful high legs, so he is good at climbing (and swimming, naturally). He's not very fast because he has shorter front legs but those only help him when swimming because they're strong and wide instead of gangly and weak. He has somewhat over-large cream claws and his paws are the light color that is splashed over his eyes.

Personality:
Shalestorm is very analytical. He is by nature an observer, though he is good at taking charge and giving direction when needed. But ever since he was a kit trying to find some way to sneak out from under his mother's watchful eye, Shalestorm has been a magnificent strategist. He is very wise, and has always been a good listener. When he was younger his denmates would tease him and call him "the elderly apprentice." Because of his maturity he didn't make many close friends, though a good number of his denmates would come to him for advice. Even so, Shalestorm has never had any trouble not having anyone to talk to. He's always been content to spend time by himself, partly because he's alone ever since he was a kit. Shalestorm may seem uninspiring at times, but his Clanmates know that he is an excellent speaker, and can encourage and instruct his Clanmates very well. He is outgoing when he wants to be, and understands cats pretty well most of the time. This is why he was made deputy at such a young age. He is fiercely loyal, and this sometimes leads to rashness when he is faced with anyone looking to hurt his Clan. He always has a strong sense of justice, and would fight for any cat that has been wronged if he can do so. Even so, it is a rare occasion when Shalestorm steps into a fight without serious consideration.
History:
Kithood:
Shalekit was born to Mockingbird and Pikesplash of RiverClan. His mother was sarcastic and disapproving, while his father was uninterested in raising kits to be anything but the strongest and the smartest and the fiercest. From a young age, the warriors' only kit was forced to work and was given no time for friends or social interaction. His mother was pretty secretive about training him, and told him that if he ever told any cat she would rip his tongue out and feed it to the fishes. Shalekit grew to fear his parents and every other cat, thinking that they were all trying to hurt him. Because of his fear he became intent on studying different cats' behavior, and he became very good at understanding them because of this. Even so, Shalekit preferred to be alone when he could, and often would concoct intelligent plans to get away from his mother. He contemplated running away from the Clan many times as a kit, but he was more afraid of the cats outside of the Clan than the cats within the Clan so he stayed. To this day no cat knows the ordeals that he went through as a kit.
Apprenticeship:
To Shalekit's great relief, the Clan's leader refused Pikesplash's special request to mentor his son. Shalepaw, therefore, was given to a very young warrior named Shiningmoon, who was clever and tenderhearted. She nurtured Shalepaw out of his fear of other cats, and even if she couldn't get him to interact much with any cat but her, she was content to change his mind when it came to the Clan. Because of Shiningmoon, Shalepaw became fiercely loyal towards his Clan, and especially to her. He devoted all of his time to his mentor, making sure to do whatever she said without question. When she got greencough during his first Leafbare as an apprentice he brought her prey and brought the medicine cat herbs, helping to make her comfortable in any way he could. His mother became his mentor during this time, and his days were harder than they had been as a kit. He was forced to train in remote places where Mockingbird could abuse him all she liked without any cat knowing. Even so, Shalepaw refused to become the timid kit he had been, and kept persevering for Shiningmoon's sake. His mentor recovered, but she was weak and couldn't do many patrols. Shalepaw continued to be her constant companion, and even if Shiningmoon felt she had failed him as a mentor she was grateful of his presence. The two became close friends, and Shiningmoon knew that something was wrong with Shalepaw, but he wouldn't tell her. She trusted that he would in time and so their relationship continued. As the moons passed, Shiningmoon didn't seem to be improving. She did not have greencough anymore, but for some reason she was still weak and had trouble with long border patrols. She was forced to spend most of her time in camp, and so Shalepaw was forced to be mentored by his mother, who continued to abuse him. He worked hard, though, and tried not to aggravate Mockingbird.
Warrior Days:
Shalepaw became a warrior when he saved a litter of kits from washing away during a flood. Shiningmoon looked on proudly as he received his warrior name of Shalestorm. The two warriors spent more time together than ever, even though Shiningmoon only became weaker as time went on. She spent almost all of her time in camp, helping the medicine cat and tending to the elders mostly. She didn't mind much, since she was of a sweet disposition and only wanted to do what she could to help. Most of her exercise involved short walks into the territory with Shalestorm. The two cats loved each other deeply, and even if Shalestorm was a bit socially awkward and reserved he still was able to express his love in other ways than just saying it. Shiningmoon told him one moon that she loved him as more than just a friend, and Shalestorm was so excited. He had never imagined that his best friend could feel the same way he did, and the two cats were both overjoyed to be together in the way they had wanted for so long. They were both still young, so it came as a bit of a shock when Shiningmoon told Shalestorm she was expecting his kits. The two young cats were excited at first, but then the medicine cat told Shiningmoon she was too weak to survive the birth. Shiningmoon accepted this, and said that she would try her hardest to give her kits' a chance at life, even if it meant she would have to give up her own. She didn't have the heart to tell Shalestorm though, and begged the medicine cat to keep it a secret. When the time of her birth came she tried her hardest and gave birth to two very small she-kits. Shiningmoon managed to tell Shalestorm that she loved him with all her heart and then she died, leaving him grief-stricken. Matters were only made worse when the weak kits died only hours after their mother. Alone and wounded, Shalestorm distanced himself from everyone around him. He was friendly enough and pretended that everything was okay, hoping his trials would be forgotten and that cats would think he didn't care so much, that he was as stoic as his father (not many cats knew him as anything else, since he was only very affectionate towards Shiningmoon). But inside he never forgot his beautiful mate and the kits he never got to know.
Deputy Days:
Shalestorm was made a deputy when he was 24 moons old, replacing Flutterlily. He was seen as a good choice due to his intelligence and his general understanding of other cats. But some of his Clanmates who remember his reaction to his mate's death and the way he distanced himself afterwards still wonder if he is really the best choice. No cat doubts his loyalties, but some wonder if he really is caring enough to take care of the Clan.
