Tawnystripe grumbled to herself as she padded along the stream that marked the ShadowClan border. Her muscles slid fluidly beneath her tawny-striped pelt as she walked, and she paused to stretch in a patch of rare sunlight. It was an unusually murky day for greenleaf. The sky was mostly overcast. The sun would occasionally breach the clouds, letting through beams of warmth.
But she had to move on. Her supply of watermint had gone bad from rain leaking in her stores, so the medicine cat was searching for some now. "Watermint is usually found by rivers, streams, and creeks like this." she meowed to herself, flicking her ear to indicate the body of water. "Usually just some wet ground is enough, and we have plenty of that. So why in StarClan's name haven't I found any yet?"
She glared at the water as if blaming it for her bad fortune and slapped at the surface with a paw. The noise would be sure to startle some nearby prey, but Tawnystripe wasn't hunting for prey. She was hunting for herbs, and that was nearly just as hard to find.

A sleek black she-cat padded out of camp, her amber eyes focused on the forest around her. Greyfire was glad to be out a camp for a bit and away from her kits. She loved them to death, but they were driving her mad, with all their questions and seemingly endless energy. She thanked StarClan that Shadowblaze had agreed to look after them while Greyfire had a well deserved break.
Being lost in her thoughts she didn't realize she had wandered all the way to the ShadowClan border until the sound of running water alerted her. She looked around and noticed the medicine cat nearby. "Hello Tawnystripe" she mewed.

Tawnystripe's frustration had clouded her senses. She didn't hear or scent Grayfire's approach until the other she-cat spoke. "Hello Tawnystripe." Grayfire said. Her voice made Tawnystripe spin around with her lips drawn back and her claws unsheathed. When she recognized her Clanmate, her claws went back in and her face relaxed. Her fur, though, stayed slightly raised. "Oh, it's only you Grayfire." she snorted, turning back to her search. She paced back and forth along the creek, her plumy tail lashing the air behind her. "What are you doing out here? Don't you know bad things usually happen to queens who leave the nursery unattended?"
Then Tawnystripe snorted, shrugging her well-muscled shoulders. "Eh, what does it matter to me? Unless you're here to help me find watermint, stay away so you don't distract me."

Grayfrie watched as the medicine spun around, looking ready to attack. "I'm just out for a walk" she mewed "Shadowblaze is looking after my kits." "I swear one day they're going to drive me crazY" she joked. Well crazier a voice in her head chimed in.
"I could help if you wanted" she offered. She didn't mind helping other cats, and was glad for the chance to talk to one. Most cats avoided her because of her mood swings and tendency to talk to non existant cats.

Tawnystripe stopped walking and snorted without turning towards the queen. With her tail twitching, she snapped, "Don't take StarClan's blessings for granted. You could wake up one day and your kits will be dead. What would you do then?"
She stayed like that before sighing. Tawnystripe forced her tail to kink over her back in an inviting gesture. "Well, come on then, if you're that eager to join me in scraping disgusting leaves from the earth that we bury our dirt in." The medicine cat secretly hoped that wording it like this would keep Grayfire from joining her.

Grayfire felt her heart drop at Tawnystripe's words. She knew all too well what it was like to have her family ripped away by StarClan. The forest around her began to fade away as another forest replaced it. A black she-cat could be seen begging a black and white tom for her life to be spared. A scream bubbled up in Grayfire's throat as her mother's throat was slashed by her brother. The scene changed to a black and white tom pinning a calico tom to the ground. The calico tom told Grayfire to be stong before he was taken by the cruel claws of their brother. Grayfire collapsed at that moment fighting off the figment of her imagination and her past. A black and white tom was poised above her, claws dangling above her throat. She thrashed trying to get away from her brother. Wildfire had left her with a mark on her throat and three little words 'It's not over.'
