A calico tom sat near the border with ShadowClan, his orange-yellow gaze staring off into the distance. Twistpaw was sick of being stuck in camp, he was almost never sent outb on patrols because most cats didn't trust him to behave. The tom sighed, he always wished that he was more social, but everytime he tried to talk to someone they made an excuse to walk away. At least you have Mysticpaw a voice reminded him. He smiled at the thought of his best friend.

An undersized, tinsel colored tabby she-cat padded close to the tom that sat close to the border of the least trusted Clan. As she neared him, it became quite apparent that she was rather upset about something or other.
Mysticpaw sat beside Twistpaw with a solemn sigh. She was finally with her closest friend within the entirety of ThunderClan. The young she-cat looked up at her tortoiseshell companion with her glum sapphire eyes. "Hey Twistpaw," she mewled quietly, her voice cracking when she said the tom's name.

Twistpaw startled by the sudden voice. He was lost in his own thoughts and hadn't noticed Mysticpaw's approach. He turned to his new companion a smile on his face that dropped when he noticed her sad expression. "Hello Mysticpaw" he mewed. "What's wrong?" he asked concerned.

The young tabby gave a weak smile at Twistpaw's happiness. She didn't want to be a burden, but she couldn't help but feel gloomy. "I really don't want to be a bother Twistpaw," she mewed, trying to force a smile in hopes that he wasn't too wrapped up in worrying about her. "It's old news, trust me," she turned her head and gave a sigh. She really didn't want to think that already half of a year had passed since the day her parents were killed. And she prayed to StarClan that her companion wouldn't remember that today was the anniversary of their deaths.
"Anyway,"she mewed in hopes to change the subject, "what are you doing by the ShadowClan border?"

Twistpaw could tell how the thoughts pained her and decided not to push. Talk about it a voice said, just cheer her up another one argued. He groaned inwardly at the headache forming. He thought he had got rid of the voices a few moons ago.
"I was bored being stuck in camp" he mewed "I just needed to get out of there." "What brings you out here?" he asked her, going only with the subject change.

Mysticpaw leaned her head against the tom's shoulder. She was thankful that he had only caught onto the subject change and didn't notice anything the matter. Normally she would be cursing his naivety then calling it adorable, but right now she was grateful for it.
Mysticpaw listened as he spoke, the tom's voice calmed her down a bit. "Well, if you really must know Twistpaw, I came out here in search of you. I know what happened the other night was a bit harsh on both of us," she mewed with regret as she mentioned the night her den.
"So I decided to come out here and talk to you about a few things. That is," she paused with a small smile, "if you want to..."

Twistpaw leaned his head on top of hers. He listened as she spoke about the other night in her den. "We can talk if you want too" he mewed in reply. He was curious as to what exactly she wanted to talk about.

Mysticpaw gave a thankful purr and twined tails with the tortoiseshell tomcat. She sat there, her body against Twistpaw's, for a good bit enjoying the comforting feel that she would always experience while in his presence. Her azure pools were covered by her eyelids as a soft sigh escaped her.
"You know that I love you right?" she mewed tenderly. Mysticpaw removed her head from under Twistpaw's and gave him a soft look. The tiny she-cat moved so that she was in front of him. Mysticpaw leaned upwards and touched noses with him. 'Sorry Mom...the other one will just have to wait for now...' she sent a silent message to her mother as her nose detached itself from the tom's.

Twistpaw felt an answering purr rumbling in his chest. He sat there contented to be in the silence and let his eyes slip shut. He opened them when he heard Mysticpaw speak and felt her move. He nodded in response to her question. "I love you too" he mewed.

Mysticpaw smiled slightly then looked down at her side, "And you know that I also am very dedicated to my duty...." her voice was slowly becoming a tad quieter and slightly more somber. She didn't want to have to tell him that this wasn't going to work out and have him be upset with her on the day of her parents' deaths, but she figured since she was already upset. She shook her head quickly to remember what it was that she was doing. 'Mysticpaw! You aren't here to tell him goodbye...you're here to tell him how much that you love him...' her mind reminded her. "My love for for you is different...strange.... I'm not quite sure, but I think that I might be...well...." she trailed off, her cheeks noticeably red under her silver pelt. Instead of vocalizing her words, she licked the tom's cheek tenderly.

Twistpaw nodded, a sad smile appearing on his maw. "I know" he mewed. He listened as she spoke again, stumbling slightly over her words. He understood what she was trying to say and licked her cheek in return.

Mysticpaw gave a half sigh of relief. Her thoughts were racing wildly for a moment and then were a hushed whisper with the affection displayed by the dark tortoiseshell tomcat. "So you understand then?" she mewed, her voice soft but solid. She wanted to be sure that her companion knew exactly how she felt. That she might possibly be in love with the young cat.
Another sigh came. This one was different, sad almost. She remembered what today was once more and padded a short distance away from Twistpaw, partially in embarrassment. 'He shouldn't have to see me like this. I'm supposed to be a medicine cat. The strongest mentally of the Clan,' she thought to herself as she looked at her paws.
The she-cat lifted her head to examine the sky. Although the sun was shining, there seemed to be a possibility for a shower. The clouds seemed darker to her, everything did. Just for that instant, she let herself feel what she had forgotten. Remorse. She hadn't felt it since the day of her parents' deaths. "Twistpaw..." she muttered softly, "come here will you..."

"Of course" Twitspaw mewed, a soft smile on his maw. He was glad that Mysticpaw returned the feelings he had for her.
Twistpaw watched as Mysticpaw moved away. He was confused, they were just having what seemed to be a promising conversation then she moved away. He heard Mysticpaw's request and got to his paws, padding over to her.

"I hate today," she muttered under her breath. The pain that she was feeling was being dulled softly by the tom's presence. There was something about him, the way he felt, his scent, his heartbeat, everything about him made her comfortable. She gave a sigh when he came closer to her and rested her head onto his chest. "Twistpaw...How long do you think it will take for everything to get easier?" her quiet mew was pained and her voice quivered.
She could feel her eyes begin to water and her body began to shake slightly. Soft shudders soon followed and eventually tears fell down her silver cheeks. Mysticpaw buried his face into Twistpaw's fur and cried. She didn't want to show him this side of her, but he was the only one that she could show it to.

Twistpaw could feel his own heart breaking at the site of Mysticpaw. Someone as beautiful as her should never have to feel pain like that. "I don't know if it does get easier" he mewed "but I'll always be here to take some of the pain away."
He let Mysticpaw bury her face in his chest, letting all of her pain seep out. He wasn't sure what to do so he settled for placing comforting licks on the top of her head and purring softly.

Mysticpaw continued to sob into her companion's pelt. She was breathing in his scent and tried to calm her breathing, but her efforts were minuscule compared to her actual emotions. She hated the thought of stopping now, it was a release for her. She hadn't cried or let herself feel the pain until now. For all of this time she had kept it bottled up, never showed it to her Clanmates. A weak medicine cat is a worthless one in her opinion.
The silver she-cat looked up after Twistpaw began to purr and lick her forehead. "Twistpaw..." she mewed warmly, her voice still shattered with her breath unstable. She allowed her tongue to reach up and capture her tortoiseshell friend's chin.
After a while of just looking up at him, her breathing finally stabilized and her tears didn't flow as hard. She gave a weak smile to her crush as she looked into his eyes.

Twistpaw continued to comfort Mysticpaw, allowing her to release her bottled up emotion. "It's okay" he mewed quietly. He felt Mysticpaw place a lick on his chin and mew his name. He was glad when her sobs finally quieted and returned her smile with one of his own.

Mysticpaw's grin widened as Twistpaw smiled with her. She was slowly beginning to push the negativity from her mind, the thought of her parents death was fading from her mind. She took a breath and found it to be easier than just a moment ago. Her blue eyes were bright and full of color from the vanished tears. The she-cat allowed herself to purr and nuzzled back into the tom's chest. "Twistpaw, would you..." she mewed, trying out her voice again. It sounded a bit hoarse, but stable. "...would you accompany me on a walk?" Mysticpaw flicked her tail at him, shook the rest of the sadness away and a quite jubilant expression spread across her muzzle.

Twistpaw was glad to see Mysticpaw's blue gaze clear and free of tears once again. The amber eyed tom returned the she-cat's nuzzle and felt an answering purr rising in his chest. He heard her voice, hoarse from crying, and felt his heart drop again, he couldn't keep her from crying. But at least you got her to stop a voice reminded him. "Of course my princess" Twistpaw mewed in reply.

Mysticpaw smiled and flicked her fluffed tail at Twistpaw, let out a single chuckle, and took off running back into the forested area of ThunderClan territory. She was giggling the whole time, she knew that Twistpaw couldn't resist a game of tag. After she was well out of sight from her companion, she stopped and looked for a decent hiding place. "Oh!" she mewed quietly, eyeing a tree.
Although she didn't really have a lot of experience with climbing, she has had to do it to get honey from bees nests. Her claws dug into the bark and she climbed a few branches up. Once she was positive that she was out of sight she slowed her breathing and held back a fit of laughter. She was now awaiting her prince to come and save her from her Tower.
