Emeraldpaw had slept soundly following his first visit to the Moonpool with his mentor, having been exhausted from the journey there and back. He had flet dazed, his head filled with the visions of stars and shimmering ancestors. His mother, Shellfur, and his sister had visited him to tell him that they were proud of him, and that made his heart soar. He had been afraid that his mother would be disappointed that his blindness in his blue eye had prevented him from being the warrior she had thought he would become.
His ancestors had also warned him to keep an eye on the rambunctious young warriors in his clan, and to make sure to stock up on herbs when newleaf approached. Do they foresee a battle? he had wondered.
Lost in thought, he almost tripped over a tree root as he followed his mentor through the forest to learn more about herbs and being a medicine cat. Better focus! he scolded himself. His paws tingled with new energy and purpose and he bounded ahead to catch up.

Flameheart padded through the forest. Her steps were still weary from the previous days journey to moonpool. She hadn't slept much, the look her father gave her when he had told her to be safe, had worried her. He seemed to be extremely worried, almost like he knew something was going to happen. I hope everything will be fine she thought.

Filled with thoughts of two young she-cats, Laughingfox didn't even see Flameheart until he collided with her. He yowled in surprise as he toppled over. "Shadowclan attack!" he cried, struggling to his paws. Emeraldpaw rolled his eyes Laughingfox can be such a pain in the tail. he thought, memories of the tom's mouthiness on the Shadowclan border flooding back to him. "Shut up, Laughingfox, you're going to cause a panic!" he snapped, surprised at his own boldness. I mean, confidence is one thing, but he is too headstrong! the young tom thought.
