Emeraldpaw sniffed and wandered his way through Riverclan territory, looking for herbs. Wow, Flameheart feels confident to send me off on my own...how great! the young medicine cat apprentice thought to himself excitedly. Blind in one eye and scrawnier than a typical Riverclan cat, Emeraldpaw was worried about finding his place. But, after his visit to the Moonpool, everything seemed like it was going to work out just fine. The young tom seemed to have the wisdom and somber disposition of an elder, willing to focus his energy into learning all that he could, understanding the importance of medicine cats in clans.
"What brings you here, young one? Are you lost?" A dark, deep voice meowed.
Emeraldpaw cringed as he was biting off some marigold stems. He didn't recognize the tom's voice...slowly raising his head so that herbs didn't mask his sense of smell, Emeraldpaw shivered. The landscape was unfamiliar. It seemed dark and inhospitable.
"You must be Riverclan's new medicine cat apprentice. Come now, I will take you back to your border." The voice quiet voice continued, stern, but not without a hint of warmth.
"B-back to the border?" Emeraldpaw meowed horrified. He glanced at the tom in front of him, a dark, muscular Shadowclan warrior with black ears, face, feet, and tail, and a brown body. Most disconcerting were his large, pale yellow eyes. "Oh, I'm sorry! I was looking for...I didn't know..." The young white tom pleaded.
Shadowmask blinked kindly at the young Riverclan medicine cat apprentice, his eyes tinted with humor, as he began to herd Emeraldpaw toward the border. Emeraldpaw hung his head, ashamed. As they neared the border, Emeraldpaw heard a snarl.
"What are you doing so close to our border...and with our medicine cat apprentice!" Laughingfox growled, hackles raised. Laughingfox ran over and grabbed the protesting Emeraldpaw by his scruff, and sniffed him over for wounds. Emeraldpaw tried to explain, but Laughingfox silenced him with his fluffy tail swishing over his mouth.
"You will find all parts accounted for. I am simply bringing him back because he lost his way looking for herbs." Shadowmask meowed, a slight grow in his voice. He knew well of Laughingfox, and wasn't about to be harassed by a womanizing self-absorbed young warrior.
"Riverclan cats do NOT lose their way." Laughingfox challenged.

''LAVAPAW;;
"Oh course not!" said a younger tom voice out of nowhere. From behind Shadowmask stepped a bright orange tom with amber eyes and a smoky black she-cat with pale grey/blue eyes. The younger tom stepped up beside Shadowmask and growled in protest. "Cause RiverClan is too high and mighty to even care what they might crush under their feet when they do!"
Lavapaw hissed at Laughingfox but payed no attention to Emeraldpaw. The young tom hadn't done anything wrong in his eyes but he wasn't quite happy that the medicine cat apprentice found his way over to the Shadowclan border in the first place. He was almost tempted to glance at the she-cat behind him in wonder what she might be thinking. Lavapaw had been accompanying the Shadowclan medicine cat apprentice so that she could find some herbs without getting attacked by anything that could come by.
He almost glanced at Shadowmask too to check to see if the warrior would be made at him. He then realized that he came across this border encounters quite alot and it was starting to bug him. How was it that he always managed to find himself back at the border in another warrior's face?
[/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] ''SLEEPINGPAW;;
She sighed outwardly quite loudly so that everyone would notice. She couldn't stand it when cats fought for no particular reason and then got hurt so that she and Fallenwhisper had to fix them up. She was quite glad that Maskpaw wasn't here cause she was sure that he would have started a skirmish right off the bat. But she also wondered if Lavapaw was any better.
She had heard the entire encounter between Shadowmask and Emeraldpaw and she hoped that maybe she could calm the love struck warrior a little bit and get him to understand her. Her empty blue eyes gazed in Emeraldpaw's general direction and then she focused her attention on Lavapaw.
"Lavapaw... Don't be so rude. We don't have to start a fight here. Maybe if Laughingfox will listen--"
"Don't waste your breath Sleepingpaw. Laughingfox can't listen, he's so deaf!"
[/s][/color] A look of horror crossed Sleepingpaw's face and she turned her expression to Shadowmask. She wanted to stop the fighting but if Lavapaw kept calling the warrior names then what was the point? They were just going to start one anyway at this rate. [/size][/font][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Shadowclan! What are they doing so close to our border!" hissed the harsh voice of a she-cat as Petalfrost approached. Laughingfox suppressed an inward groan, too angry at the Shadowclan cats for their words. Petalfrost would usually rather eat crowfood than help out Laughingfox, but loyal to her clan above else, the feisty warrior stood beside her clanmate. Her anger at the Shadowclan cats became even greater when she saw the fear and misery in the eyes of Emeraldpaw.
"Lavapaw" Shadowmask growled a warning.
Laughingfox hissed at the young apprentice. "Shadowclan cats are so bitter about the awful land they picked by the lake that they don't value teaching their apprentices manners when speaking to other warriors, it seems." Petalfrost taunted.
Shadowmask's expression remained cool, but he was losing his usual calm. "Shadowclan teaches their apprentices to respect only those who deserve it." he retorted.
"You should all stop! This isn't worth a battle!" Emeraldpaw tried to sound bold, but felt his words change nothing. Hostility cracked in the air like lightning.

''LAVAPAW;;
Of course Shadowmask would shut him up! Of course he wasn't allowed to get into fights that he deserved to be in. At Petalfrost's remark Lavapaw hissed. He cared about his land and would rather live here then anywhere else. He didn't care about having land with rich freshkill or anything like that. All he cared about was a safe place for his clan to live and to survive.
"I am taught more then enough, thank you very much!" He hissed angrily and nodded at Shadowmask's comment about learning deserved respect. However, he completely ignored Emeraldpaw's plea and lowered himself, ready for a fight.
[/font][/blockquote][/blockquote] ''SLEEPINGPAW;;
Sleepingpaw began to shake in fear and worry. She admired Emeraldpaw's courage and knew that the young medicine cat apprentice couldn't fight a winning battle alone. So she stepped forward despite her fear and stood directly on the border line. She had a plan and she hoped to Starclan that it would work.
"Stop! This is a stupid reason to start a fight! Emeraldpaw had accidentally crossed the border and Shadowmask brought him back! Besides, Emeraldpaw is a Medicine cat apprentice! He shouldn't get into trouble for passing the border anyway. Shadowmask was merely being helpful rather then a problem like some warriors I know."
She gazed at the two warriors with sightless eyes once again. She was trembling with terror but she knew she had to stand up for her clan and for Emeraldpaw.

Large silver eyes had watched most of the entire scene, the massive tom had wandered around looking for water. Naturally, he headed towards the Lake to quench his thirst but he was shocked and suprised to come to some kind of border. There was no other word for it, it was a border made by a bunch of cats. Cats that obviously did not want tresspassers. But it had been many sunrises before he had had water, Aries needed water.
On his way, he heard loud noises and he was already sort of tense and worried about being caught. For all he knew, all of these cats could ambush him and even though he was a seasoned murderer and knew how to fight, not even he could take on all the cats he had scented at the border. Curiosity got the better of him despite his thirst and he slowly got close enough to see what was going on.
He almost showed himself when he saw there were three very young cats among a group of mature cats that were obviously getting ready to fight. That part amused him but he was afraid for the kits safey, even though none of them were kits. Aries' silver eyes took everything in, not understanding all of it but most of it. He slid his claws in and out, slightly worrried about what would happen if these cats noticed him. Aries could take on all of the adult cats with no problem but keeping the kits out of harm as well would be challenging.

"Maybe Shadowmask did just bring him back to the border, but he shouldn't have let him keep the herbs!" Reedstrike chastised, slinking toward the border.
Shadowmask flicked his ears in surprise. "You would challenge the decision of a senior warrior, Reedstrike? When you have not been a warrior long yourself?" His clanmate's only response was a curled lip. Shadowmask sighed. "Perhaps your apprentices see more wisdom than we do. There is no need for a battle, however rude Riverclan may be." Shadowmask straightened himself up from his fighting crouch. "Shadowclan, we have better things to do than to stoop to the level of these amateur warriors."
Emeraldpaw heaved a short-lived sigh of relief, but it caught in his chest as he spied an unfamiliar cat watching from afar. Who was he? A sign from Starclan? He's huge! Emeraldpaw thought.

The sound of arguing caught the she-cat's attention just as she was preparing to pounce on a vole. Distracted, she hissed in frustration as she watched the creature dart away in alarm. Flexing her claws, the apprentice stalked towards the noise, indignant and wanting to know just what was so important that it had to take away her kill. Emerging into a clearing, the apprentice was stunned to see a group of warriors and apprentices at the border, looking peevish and upset. Lightingpaw's eyes narrowed as she heard the ShadowClan warrior's last words.
"That's rich, coming from a fox-hearted crowfood-eater." She said loudly enough to be heard. If there was one thing Lightningpaw wasn't good at, it was tact.

Reedstrike growled. "Shadowclan does not back down from a fight!" She shot a furious look at Shadowmask. How could he just walk away and make their clan look weak?
Shadowmask glared at the feisty she-cat, fixing his pale yellow eyes on her. "Maybe you should be more concerned with trusting the judgement of your own clanmates." he hissed quietly, his face close to hers.
Petalfrost would have lashed a tail if she had one. "We should attack now, while they are arguing amongst themselves and teach them a lesson!" she meowed to her clanmates.

Lightningpaw narrowed her eyes at the two ShadowClan cats, who seemed to be arguing amongst themselves. Pitiful. She thought angrily. But no matter how annoying ShadowClanners could be, she wouldn't attack them while their back was turned. So in response to Petalfrost's words, Lightningpaw only flicked her tail and blew through her nose, but her eyes never left the ShadowClanners. It seemed as though some of them were determined to keep this from a fight, and that was all well and good. She didn't give a heap of foxdung for their pelts, whether they left shredded or in tact. But if they wanted to fight, she had claws that were quite prepared to work for her.
