Cookie relaxed a bit at the presence of her mates touch. She studied Sighingwind and tried to figure out the right answer to his question. "You're too close to the edge?" she guessed, with a shrug, She rea;;y wasn't sure what was wrong.

"Well, yes," Sighingwind said with a pleasant laugh. "But notice my shadow." He gestured to it with his tail.
"It is over the water, and fish will sense the change and avoid it. The best thing to do is sit where your shadow does not extend over the water." Sighingwind repositioned himself in the correct fashion and gestured again with his tail, indicating the difference.

Cookie smiled at her mates laugh. She then studied the difference between his positions, noticing the lack of shadow. She nodded in understanding. "So don't let my shadow fall on the water, got it" she mewed.

Sighingwind nodded. "Good. Now, watch the water. Sometimes it turns silver, but don't be fooled by the sunlight. Watch for the flashes to become deeper, less flighty. Watch." The tom motioned with his tail towards a flash of silver in the water. It kept moving towards them, flashing periodically. The tom then touched his tail to his mate's flank and lifted his paw, showing her the form as his eyes traced the fish. Then, as it came closer, he whipped his paw out and scooped it up onto the bank. With a deft motion he pounced on it and killed it with one clean blow.
"There you have it," he meowed, turning to her. "You must scoop the fish out onto the shore before you can kill it. Don't try to get your claws into it. Fish are much too slippery, you see," he meowed, nudging the fish to her side so that she could feel its scales.

Cookie watched for what her mate described. She watched as one of the shapes became closer. She watched as he scooped it out before killing it. "Okay, that doesn't seem too difficult"she mewed. She ran her paw along the slippery surface of the fish, noticing how difficult it would be to dig her claws into it.

"It isn't, with practice," Sighingwind meowed. "But it's a bit tricky at first. Come, show me how you would position yourself, and strike." Sighingwind set the first fish aside and curled his tail around his forepaws.

Cookie smiled before moving closer to the river. She settled herself, angling her shadow away from the water. She concentrated on the water, watching silver flit around. She focused on one fish watching as it swam closer. She tried to scoop it out like Sighingwind showed her, but only succeeded in splashing her mate. She felt her cheeks heat up as she ducked her head in embarassment. "Sorry" she muttered.

Sighingwind winced as cold water splashed his face. He shook his head and wiped his wet fur with his paw, smiling at his mate's anxious expression.
"That's a good first try," he meowed. "Keep at it. Your form is fine so far, you just need to get your scoop to be quicker and more precise."

"Really?" Cookie asked looking at her mate.
She took a deep breath focusing back on the water. She wanted to prove to Sighingwind that she could do this. She carefully studied the water, watching the fish swim about. She caught sight of a slightly larger silver shape swimming about. She took a deep breath before plunging her paw into the cook water. She quickly flicked her paw sending the fish onto the bank. She smiled brightly as it flopped about before remembering to eliver the killing blow.

Sighingwind didn't move as the fish flew onto the bank. He smiled when he saw Cookie forget in her joy to kill it. But she remembered and managed to get it before it got away into the river again.
"Excellent!" he meowed. "I told you you'd pick it up quickly. I didn't catch a fish at all my first day of learning."

Cookie beamed at the praise. "You didn't?" she asked, sounding surprised. It seemed like Sighingwind was a natural to her.

"Nah," Sighingwind replied solemnly. "I managed to scoop one up but it hit me in the face and then fell back into the water." He said this with an air of dignity, but then he burst out laughing. Sighingwind had never cared much for looking "dignified" or "cool." He preferred to just be himself, whenever possible.

Cookie let out her own mrrow of laughter at her mates story. She loved that he was never afraid to be himself around her, even if he was a goof sometimes. "You were just trying to catch it in your mouth, right?" she asked.

"Oh yes," Sighingwind meowed, lifting his eyebrows slightly, an expression of amusement on his face. "And who can say it wouldn't have worked if my eyes hadn't been closed?" He twitched his whiskers and chuckled softly at the memory.

"So that was your problem, you forgot to concentrate on it" she mewed. She felt so relaxed being with Sighingwind, she loved spending time with her mate.

"Indeed, indeed," Sighingwind meowed, letting out a soft huff. "I was quite the clumsy little ball of fur back in the day. Match told me frequently that if my paws were any bigger I would have tripped over them constantly," he said. Then his head tipped to the side slightly, as if he were thinking about something. He stared into the water thoughtfully.

"I'm sure you weren't that clumsy" Cookie mewed. She then noticed Sighingwind was focused on the water. She bumped his shoulder lightly. "What are you thinking about?" she asked.

Sighingwind shook his head and turned his attention back to his mate.
"Just memories," he meowed. While he had always been rather open with his mate, he had never spoken to her much of his life. He preferred to dwell on the present whenever he could. It did not do to linger in the past all the time.

Cookie just nodded in understanding. She wasn't going to push Sighingwind into talking about anything he didn't want to. "Good ones, I hope" she mewed.
((sorry, bleh muse for this))

Sighingwind glanced at Cookie and then smiled, the sort of smile he always put on his face when he didn't want to concern anyone.
"Memories," he repeated. "Only memories." He knew he was being enigmatical, but the past was something he didn't dwell on if he could help it. Plus, it never was a good thing to constantly gripe and complain. He only wanted to be positive around his mate, if he could help it. That attitude wouldn't last forever, but he was so happy to just have her back at his side.
"So," he meowed, turning to her with a lighter expression, "Why don't we eat these fish, then, before they start to smell?"

Cookie recognized the smile on her mates face, having been on the receiving end of it enough times. She knew it was the look he put on so she wouldn't worry, and decided not to press.
"That sounds like a good plan to me" she mewed, smiling.

Sighingwind picked the fish up in his jaws and carried it a ways away from the bank, to a small patch of sunlight on some flat rocks. He curled up on the warm surface with his pike at his paws. He waited for his mate to join him.

Cookie retrieved her own fish from the bank before padding after Sighingwind. She settled across from her mate on the flat rock, enjoying the warmth seeping into her fur. She took a bite of the fish and swallowed before smiling at him. She was content to spend the day laying and dozing in the sun with her mate.
