[Sparrowfeather]
Gleaming yellow eyes looked back at him from the depths of the river, the sun glittering in the gentle currents as the fish swam by. He didn't move a muscle, but just kept staring at the water as his bushy tail flicked bored behind him. He wasn't really fishing---all the pray that had been swimming by was too small to even feed a kit, anyways---it was just one of those times in which Sparrowfeather just did...nothing.
Birds chirped happily in the trees behind him, and he turned his head in time to see a few flutter away in search of better nesting. The scent of life flowed throughout the whole area as New-Leaf spread it's roots. What he wouldn't give for a pretty she-cat to come by.
It wasn't that he had nothing better to do than look at his gorgeous self in the water. It was just that there were other cats already at task, and with his apprentice in StarClan knows where, he really didn't feel like moving from that relaxing spot.
He liked it best near the water. No, not in it, but near. The sound of the currents hitting against the rocks was soothing, and the gentle breeze sometimes lifted a couple of droplets that sprayed his face. Sparrowfeather loved this place, and it was the one he most frequently used when he was with a she-cat.
Even Songstar had come here with him once or twice.
"No luck though..." The tom chuckled to himself, dipping a white paw into the crystalline water.

A beautiful tortoiseshell she-cat made her way down towards the river. She was hoping to get a nice cool drink, since the heat of Greenleaf was beginning to get to her. Shriek had very thick fur, even if it was silky, so warmth and her did not mix well. Her cool hazel eyes looked around her and spotted a tom sitting beside the water. He didn't seem to be doing anything, so she figured he wouldn't care if she invaded his privacy for a few moments. She didn't know him, since she spent most of her time out hunting and only came back to camp a few times a day. Making her way over to the river, she dipped her head and closed her eyes as she lapped up some water with a light pink tongue. Licking up the last few drops from her whiskers, she glanced at the tom skeptically, knowing that he was a SkyClan warrior but not remembering who he was.

Sparrowfeather was in mid-yawn when he spotted the she-cat approaching the river. His yellow eyes quickly darter upward, looking at the bright sky. Are you serious? He wasn't expecting to have his wishes answered. Turning his head again towards the she-cat, he noticed that she had the distinctive SkyClan scent. But even so, he didn't know this cat. How was it possible that he didn't know a she-cat from his own clan?
No, he couldn't let his fame die with this simple mistake. He had to go there and introduce himself.
Standing up, he shook the last few drops of water from his paw and padded over to the beautiful cat. "Good morning," He greeted, a charming smile growing in his muzzle. "Quite hot today, isn't it?"

Shriek glanced up at the tom. She straightened her shoulders and was gratified to find that she wasn't terribly shorter than him, as happened with many of the other cats in the Clan - tom and she-cat alike. Tipping her head to one side, Shriek gave a polite nod to the cat.
"Yes," she replied in her smooth voice, "I imagine it will get better later on. I don't believe our paths have crossed. I'm currently a visitor in SkyClan. My name is Shriek." She dipped her head to him in greeting.

"Ah..That explains a few things." The tom nodded, dipping his head in greeting. Yes, it pretty much explained her odd name, and the fact that he hadn't seen her before. "Pleased to make your very beautiful acquaintance, Shriek. You can call me Sparrowfeather, I am just another warrior here."
He straightened up from his courteous bow, and smiled again, his eyes narrowing to slits as his smile reached them. Lovely, she was just lovely. And what was better, she didn't know a thing about the rumors going on about him. Naive, at least about the things being said.
Oh, how did he love StarClan.

Shriek tipped her head to the side slightly. She knew this guy's type.
"A pleasure for me as well, I'm sure." Her words were formal and polite, if not guarded. Shriek could remember too many instances where letting down one's guard ended badly for oneself and loved ones.
"What did you say, brat?" the tom asked, whirling on her, his eyes burning.
"I said leave my daddy alone!" The she-cat squeaked. The big cat towered over her, his red eyes sparkling with malice.
"Oh? Would you rather I hurt you instead, pipsqueak?" Shriek glanced at her father, who lay nearly unconscious near her, blood seeping from a wound in his neck.
"Yes," she replied, looking up pleadingly at the tom, "I'd do anything! Leave him alone!"
"Shriek..." Her father murmured, his eyes filled with pain.
"As you wish, darling," the tom sneered, coming towards her until she could no longer see past his huge bulk to where her father was calling out in desperation.
Shriek blinked, bringing herself back form the past. Barely a few seconds had passed, and her expression had not changed. She tipped her head to the side and met the tom's stare with the hard eyes of a cat that was not easily trusting.

Ok, maybe he wasn't as thankful. He could see the suspicion and doubt in the she-cat's eyes as plain as day, even if her face betrayed nothing; it made his tail twitch annoyingly. Why were the she-cat's within his reach always this hard to conquer? Sparrowfeather sighed inwardly.
Well, he'd just have to play it well, then. "And, what brings you to SkyClan?" Sparrowfeather asked, honestly wondering what the outsider was doing here, and why had Songstar allowed her to stay.

Shriek looked at Sparrowfeather and thought about the reason she had come. Protection, for one. Perhaps in a way she had looked to replace the family she'd lost. The community she'd known her whole life had been important to her, and SkyClan had reminded her of those times. In the end, though, she knew he wanted a more superficial answer than she was inclined to give, so she lied.
"I was just curious," she meowed. "Looking for something interesting to do." She shrugged and glanced back up at the camp. She wondered if it was too late to join a patrol.

He could feel the three long, white hairs above his right eye move up. Simple curiosity? Songstar had allowed her to come into the clan for simple curiosity? The tom shook his head, snorting. Did she think him stupid? Not even a kit would believe that.
Sparrowfeather got to his paws, and started padding, circling the stranger. "That is a very poor reason to come into the clan." He mewed, bright yellow eyes fixed on her as his bushy tail flicked behind him. "Shriek, was it?" He said, "Well, Shriek, let me tell you that you make a very poor liar. What's interesting to me are your true intentions for coming here." The tom flicked his tail sharply, this she-cat had awoken a curiosity he hadn't felt for a while. This was the second time he had encountered an outsider during his whole life, and this time, it was a she-cat.
What were her true intentions? Sparrowfeather was curious.

Shriek was surprised by the tom, to say the least. She hadn't expected him to be so nosy, for one. Or so intrigued, for that was what he seemed to be. Shrugging her shoulders slightly, Shriek tipped her head to the side in a dismissing gesture.
"Any other she-cat would find great offense at being called a lair when responding to an indelicate question with less than the painful truth," Shriek meowed with a definite tone of disdain in her voice. "But I've been called worse things for less. My true intentions, as you call them, are my own business. I doubt you carry enough real compassion in your heart to listen to the story of how I came to be here, without a friend or family member in the world, looking for some purpose in life." Shriek had never told any cat about her experiences. She figured they would pity her, or blame her somehow. So she had decided a long time ago not to say anything, but to bear the weight of her past without revealing her secrets to any cat, friend or otherwise.
