Ivystripe tipped her head back and closed her eyes, glorifying in the glow of the full moon. Poppykit was still too young to leave in another queen's care, so Ivystripe had been left behind. Her darling kit was asleep in their nest, nice and warm beneath a blanket of moss, so Ivystripe took the time to enjoy the silence of the night. The night was so calm, in fact, that Ivystripe began to sing a lullaby her mother had taught her kit years.
"Promise me we'll stay for the sunset, and when the moon shines through the darkness, we can find the path that leads us home, and on the way you'll, maybe, sing me a song.
"Promise that you always will be there. Hold my hand if ever I'm real scared. Help me stand up tall when I fall down. Help me laugh away on my bluest days!"

Wildfire sat with her golden eyes glowing in the darkness of the clearing. She curled her tail around her paws and angled her head, listening to Ivystripe. Could that be her someday, singing to kits? She shifted her paws, somewhat uncomfortable at the thought. Would she ever settle down and stop feeling so restless. She sighed and looked up at the full moon. I'd rather be there. she thought. With Northstar and my clan. She felt her fur burn when she realized that she had thought specifically of Northstar.
"Even old Storyteller got to go!" she meowed out loud, frustrated at embarrassing herself.

Any other time, Ivystripe would have snapped at her to be quiet and stop whining. But her song, her memories, and the soft breeze that wrapped around the camp put the queen into a soft mood. "It does make sense. He is, after all, the only elder we have at the moment." Her ear twitched toward the nursery, checking that Poppykit was still asleep. She noticed Wildfire's embarassment, and wondered what she was embarrassed about. "Something on your mind? You seem to be a tad flustered." she meowed in amusement.

Wildfire sighed. "I know it's immature." the young warrior meowed. "But I really would like to be at the gathering right now. I hope I didn't wake Poppykit?" Wildfire inquired, taking a curious step forward. She had never interacted with the kits in the clan much. She knew that Storyteller had more than earned his place at the gathering, but she was hoping that Northstar would want her there, though she would never admit it to anyone.
She thought of the other day with the wind dancing through the pale, yellow grass and his look of concern when he asked her what she was doing on the border....
Wildfire shook her head to clear it. "Did you always know...did you always want kits?" the young-she cat asked.

Ivystripe kept her ears up for a few more heartbeats before she shook her head. "No, I can hear her snoring from here, so she's still asleep." She snorted and shook her head. "Too much like that mouse-brained father of hers." At the question of if she ever wanted kits, Ivystripe hesitated in answering. She kept her body turned in the direction of the nursery so that Wildfire couldn't see the embarrassed tilt of her mouth. "Well... I alway knew I wanted kits, but not so soon, and certainly not with Rowanwhisker..."
At the thought of the father of her kit (because she refused to say they were mates), a scowl quickly flitted across her face. "Rowanwhisker is loud, crude, annoying, and an all-around-nuisance. Poppykit is the result of a night of weakness, of grief and mourning at the loss of my brother." Ivystripe sighed after a deep breath before murmuring, "Poppykit is an accident, but one I will never regret making."

Wildfire flattened her ears in surprise at the ferocity in Ivystripe's voice. She always thought the biggest decision would be whether or not she wanted kits. She never imagined regretting who she had kits with.
"Poppykit may be half Rowanwhisker, but she's half of you, too. You don't have to see him every time that you look at her. She's young yet, and can still make a great Windclan warrior." Wildfire meowed with conviction, which she realized came from the fact that she was hazy on her own origins...
"Northstar will make sure she has a good mentor to temper her ways." the she-cat continued.

Poppyfur stretched on her nest, awakened from sleep by a dream. She hadn't expected to wake up in the middle of the night. THe Gathering was still in progress, and Poppyfur had hoped to get a nice long sleep for once. She yawned quietly and slipped out of her den. The moon was bright and shone down clearly on the whole forest. Poppyfur studied it, watching the craters of its surface. The soft silver light was mesmerizing and Poppyfur couldn't imagine a night more lovely. The ginger she-cat shook her head. Such lovestruck thoughts were for kits and newleaf apprentices. She had no time for romance. That was for queens and she was a warrior! Poppyfur spied her clanmates, Ivystripe and Wildfire talking. Perhaps she should join them... It didn't seem like she would be sleeping again soon.

Wildfire's ears twitched as she picked up movement outside of the warrior's den. Had she woken someone up? She shot an apologetic glance in the direction of the den and spotted Poppyfur. She waved her tail in greeting.
