Laughingfox padded over to the pool and gazed down into its shimmering depths. Is this who I want to be? the young tom wondered. He was so young, but he tried to be sure of himself. He would perish before he let his clanmates know that he was insecure, but he had been a warrior for quite a few moons and had yet to be given an apprentice. Unfortunately, he didn't think that the clan leader and deputy were too fond of him.
Sometimes, I feel as though Riverclan is too small for me. he thought, angling his head. That there is something more, somewhere else.
He thought he spied the reflection of a much older Riverclan warrior in the pool for a moment. Startled, he tumbled backwards, falling awkwardly on his rear with his limbs splayed out. He wouldn't ever tell a soul, but he feared Starclan. He always wondered if he would live up to his ancestors' reputation.

Ripplestream had just been walking past, minding his own business, when he suddenly heard a thump from nearby. He paused and angled his ears toward where he heard the noise coming from. What was it? He wondered if he should check it out, curiosity battling with the instinctive knowledge that it could be dangerous. Curiosity won out, and the steel-grey tabby poked his head from between the reeds that bordered the river to see Laughingfox sitting awkwardly. Ripplestream blinked before snickering and meowing, "Well, that doesn't look comfortable at all. What are you going?"

"It's not comfortable!" Laughingfox meowed defensively, scrambling to his paws. "Something startled me, that's all." he retorted, licking a paw and drawing it over his face to try and cover for his embarrassment. "And anyway," the young tom continued, "don't you have something you ought to be doing?"

Ripplestream grinned, padding out of the reeds completely and examining his own reflection in the water. "Nope, not at the moment. I'm set on the evening patrol, and it's only sunhigh." He flicked his ears towards where the sun was hidden by thick gray clouds. It would snow again before said patrol. "I can wander if I want to. I've already caught a water vole, which is obviously more than was you've caught since I don't see any pile anywhere. As such, I believe I'm entitled to take a break for a few minutes to speak to a Clanmate."

Laughingfox glared at his clanmate mutinously. "Just because I don't have a pile by the water doesn't mean I haven't caught anything." he mumbled. His expression changed as he narrowed his eyes and gave a devious grin, flinging a small stone at his feet into the water, splashing Ripplestream. He let out a mrrrrow of laughter.

Ripplestream didn't react to the water other than blinking and raising an eyebrow (or whatever cats have that's the equivalent of an eyebrow). Quite dryly, he said, "We're RiverClan. You really think a few drops in the face is going to matter much." Suddenly grinning mischievously, he meowed, "Now, if you did this, however..." and he lunged at Laughingfox, knocking him into the river. "Now that is funny!" he said before beginning to laugh.

Laughingfox howled in surprise as Ripplestream lunged at him. He wrapped his arm around his clanmate, the momentum sending both of them tumbling into the river. Laughingfox swam to the surface, sputtering. "Oh, the snow is so much better!" he coughed, then proceeded to laugh. It was nice to see that some of his clanmates could still have a good time, despite the problem they were having with the fish.
"Everyone's been so crotchety and boring lately. You'd think Riverclan was made of all elders!" he surged through the water, trying to dunk Ripplestream under. "The fish will get better! Why don't you try and catch one!"

Ripplestream was ashamed of the loud squeal that he gave when Laughingfox dragged him into the water. He waited to get his bearings after breaking through the surface before kicking upwards, already laughing when he got to the air. He splashed Laughingfox before squealing again when his Clanmate pushed him under. He kicked at Laughingfox's belly, pushing himself away before breaking out of the water.
He splashed Laughingfox again before being content with laying on his back, making sure he didn't float downstream. "What's the point of catching something if you're not going to eat it? That just shows disrespect to the prey and to StarClan. Part of the warrior code is to show respect to those who give us life, be it our ancestors who created the Clans or the prey that gives us energy to live."

Laughingfox rolled on his back closed his eyes and sighed. "But how long do you think it will go on? Are we just not supposed to eat fish anymore? How will we know when they are better?" He flipped back onto his stomach again, treading water with his paws. "There has to be something making them sick. Maybe we should spend more time trying to figure out what it is. Go exploring upstream." he suggested.
