His belly fur skimmed the grass below him. His paws slid silently against the surface. He had to be silent any noise would give away his position. Not two foxlengths away Foxflame saw the rabbit he had been stalking lift its head, he froze not even daring to breath. After a few long seconds it went back to nibbling some stems. As much as he wanted to sigh in relief Foxflame knew he couldn't.
Any other cat would have leaped by know and killed the rabbit, but Foxflame was feeling rambunctious. He wanted to practice his stealth, to see how silently he could move through the thicket. So far he was quiet impressed with himself as he was less then a foxlength away now. He was done testing his luck now tensing up his muscles Foxflame launched himself killing the rabbit before it could utter a sound.
Satisfied Foxflame went to take a step forward but with the rabbit obscuring his view he was unable to see the uplifted root in front of him, that is until he tripped over it. The world blurred as he somersaulted forward. Everything came to a stand still as he fell into the river. The tom wanted to gasp but that meant opening his mouth and losing the rabbit and he was not about to do that. Pushing himself out of the water Foxflame broke the surface. He paddled to the rivers edge and threw the rabbit on the dry surface while he remained partly in the water, his claws dug into the earth so he wouldn't be swept with the water.
With a huff he rested his head on the ground. He had the stealth down, but be aware of his surroundings not so much. His eyes flickered upwards at the sound of a twig snapping.

Flickerpaw came out and tried not to laugh, but he couldn't hide his mirth entirely. "Did the rabbit need a bath?" He asked, snickering.

Foxflame huffed once more but quickly replaced his tired and annoyed expression with a more jovial one. With a grunt he pulled himself out of the water, his entire body dripped water. He flicked his large plumy (wet) tail at Flickerpaw sending large droplets in the apprentice's direction, "Actually, yeah it did, you didn't see it before, phew, filthy." he said before shaking himself. His eyes gained a hard glint, "But I swear you tell anyone, you're the one who is going to need a bath,"

Flickerpaw flinched as the cold water rained on him. "I get it, I get it. I'll just enjoy snickering at this every time i think about it." He replied with a cheeky grin. "And if it just needed a bath why not hold it at the edge of the water, rather than jumping in?"

Foxflame growled at the apprentice. He liked a joke as much as the next cat, even if that joke centered around him. Sure he didn't like those in particular and he definitely didn't like this one, seeing as how he was dripping wet. "Fine," he relented, "I didn't jump in, I fell in," he said carefully not really wanting to tell the whole truth.

Flickerpaw smiled. "Well perhaps you could demonstrate how so I don't make the same mistake?" He asked. He was enjoying this sight immensely, and the idea of a warrior falling in the river to catch prey was humorous.

"Demonstrate?" Foxflame repeated. He snorted in laughter lifting a paws and began to groom himself, the sun would help him dry but it didn't hurt to help the process along. Besides how his fur was sticking to his body was beginning to feel uncomfortable. "I'm trying to dry off now so I really don't feel like jumping in the water again," he paused looking at Flickerpaw once more, "I have an idea, I could use to demonstrate! Come here," he said starting to walk towards the apprentice.

"Uh-uh!" He said, backing away. "I know what you're up to. I wasn't born yesterday..." He paused. "It was the day before."

"I could believe that." Stormrelic padded up to the two cats. She was glad she'd stopped to chuckle farther back; now she could hold a straight face while addressing her Clanmates. Even so, she permitted herself a smile. It was hard to stay stoic when there was a very unhappy, sopping wet warrior in front of you. "Now that I think about it, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to teach all of the apprentices to swim. With a river nearby, you'll need to be able to save yourself if any...hrm, accidents... like this occur again." Her eyes lit up with amusement. Well, she wasn't going to be able pass off being completely serious...

"Hmm for some reason I don't doubt that, I'll get you next time," he threatened. It was more of mock, well sort of now that the idea of throwing the apprentice in the river was planted in his head, it would be hard to forget it. His ears flattened against his skull as Stormrelic approached them, he really didn't want the deputy to see him like this. The tip of his tail flicked, as long as Songstar didn't show up it would be fine. Still, he eyed Flickerpaw, apprentices weren't known to keep their mouths shut. "As long as I'm not in charge of these 'swimming' lessons that's fine," he mumbled. Foxflame didn't miss the look in Stormrelic's eyes but he accepted it, he would look at anyone else in the same situation.

"We're not supposed to swim." Flickerpaw whined. He hated to get wet. Besides, how many warriors actually knew how to swim? He doubted many of them.

"Well, maybe it's about time we did," Stormrelic replied. She looked over at Foxflame, noting his humiliated look. "Don't worry, I don't think this ... event ... is important enough to trouble Songstar with. As long as a certain apprentice," she raised her eyebrows at Flickerpaw, "doesn't say anything, I believe we can hold back on having swimming lessons added." She knew that this ultimatim, more than anything, would keep Flickerpaw's mouth shut and Foxflame's pride intact. Swimming lessons might not be a bad idea, though...

Flickerpaw shut his mouth and nodded smartly, even throwing in a tail salute for good measure. "Yes ma'am." He said. He would do ANYTHING to get out of swimming lessons. Well, except swim of course.

Stormrelic smiled at the apprentice, then turned to look at Foxflame. "You go and dry yourself and that rabbit off. We don't want anyone getting sick." She turned into the forest. "I'll hunt around here for a while," she called back over her shoulder. Her light grey coat melted into the undergrowth as she moved away.

Foxflame smirked at the Flickerpaw's salute, "Sure now you're respectful," he sighed. His ear flicked in response to Stormrelic words toward him almost tempted to repeat Flickerpaw's response. Getting himself dry was one thing, a bit of sunbathing and grooming and he would be dry as a whistle. The rabbit on the otherhand was another matter, he wasn't about to lick it dry and putting it in a patch of sun too long would make it smell like crowfood. With a slight shrug Foxflame gave himself another shake before trying to dry his tail, the plumey thing was a nuisance when wet anyways.

Flickerpaw giggled at the sight of the wet warrior again, but quickly stifled his laughter. He was glad he'd been around to see that, especially since Autumnpaw was busy training at the moment. He'd rather be spending every waking moment with her, but at least he was entertained.

Stormrelic observed the scene from the top of a tree, then moved deeper into the forest. She slowed as she came across a robin sitting on a limb not far away. Stormrelic carefully stepped onto the branch right below it, and prepared to spring. In a flash of feathers, the she-cat caught the surprised bird in her jaws and landed lightly on the forest floor. She gently shook the leaves and twigs off her prey and buried it to be collected later.

"Yeah yeah har har," Foxflame said hearing Flickerpaws quickly stifled giggles. He felt drier already, just damp really, that was going to be his excuse because he didn't feel like grooming himself for much longer, what with the threat of hacking up a hair ball and all. The chatter of of sparrow caught his attention. Looking around he saw its small shape resting on a low branch. Foxflames whiskers twitched, turning to Flickerpaw, "Guard the rabbit," he said almost as if he was bestowing the apprentice with a great duty.
Making his way over to the tree he had to resist the urge to literally wag his tail, both to air dry it and because he was happy. The bird abruptly stopped its chatter but didn't fly away. Foxflame tensed up his muscles judging the distance between the ground Foxflame imitated the birds sound. It seemed almost cautiously the sparrow returned it. Stupid bird, without another thought Foxflame lunged catching the startled bird in his jaw, carefully balancing himself on the birds previous perch.

Flickerpaw glared at the rabbit. "Oh sure, leave the apprentice to look after the meal." He said, moping around. He walked around and kicked some pebbles, sighing with boredom and frustration. If his mentor wasn't the clan leader he'd have been long gone...

Spying another morsel scampering along the ground, Stormrelic began slinking along the ground. She inched closer to the squirrel until she was close enough to leap. She overestimated herself and fell short. In a flash, the squirrel was racing up a nearby tree. Stormrelic leapt again, catching the squirrel just as it thought it was safe in the boughs. It let out a fearful squeek before she bit it on the neck, ending its life. She looked around and, seeing that the animal's cry had alerted the surrounding wildlife, made her way back down to the ground. She retrieved her robin and set off to regroup with Foxflame and Flickerpaw. She smiled as she thought of the wet warrior. Hopefully he'd dried off some by now.

Carefully setting the bird down Foxflame looked over to the grumpy apprentice. He recalled a time when he was a fresh warrior and he saw some twolegs playing a game of some sort, it was like the game he played with his littermates as kits. Tossing the moss back and forth, but the twolegs were throwing a much larger object. Looking back down at his bird than at the apprentice a wicked gleam appeared. Unsheathing his claws Foxflame hooked the bird. He took a long moment to judge the distance between the tree and the grounded Flickerpaw.
"Heads up!" he called before chucking the sparrow at Flickerpaws head. Either three things could happen, Foxflame could have totally missed, but he doubted that, Flickerpaw would catch it or dodge, or the bird would hit the apprentice head on, literally. [/size]

Flickerpaw looked up, taking the bird in the face. He quickly shook his head, growling in frustration. "Thanks for the warning." He called bitterly, a little angry about the surprise, even if it didn't hurt much. The warrior couldn't have just dropped it next to him? Flickerpaw, being easily annoyed, sat back down with his ears pinned.

As Stormrelic returned, she heard Foxflame's exclamation and stepped out of the trees in time to see him lob the rabbit towards Flickerpaw. The startled apprentice had the misfortune to catch it in the face. "I love to see that you're having fun, but don't you think your prey deserves more respect than that?" Stormrelic padded up beside Flickerpaw. Her eyes found Foxflame's, and she lifted her eyebrows at him. The warrior should have known better than to do something as kit-like as that. It wasn't that he was wasting prey; the rabbit wasn't exactly in the best shape after the dunking it recieved; but just the principle of the thing.

Flickerpaw cheered up when Stormrelic appeared to question the other warrior. Flickerpaw started giving his face a bath, trying to clean off anything that was left on it. If Songstar smelled prey on his muzzle he might be suspected of eating prey before hunting for the clan. He definitely did not want to have to suffer the consequences for that when he didn't do it. The rabbit was still laying where it had fallen off his face and Flickerpaw didn't bother it at all. It was Foxflame's catch.

Foxflame sighed as he heard Stormrelics words. Was he the only one that was enjoying himself? That didn't make sense if it was so, wasn't he the one that just went for a 'swim' in the water and risked getting sick especially in this weather? Well, suppose he should be used to it by now. Besides if he didn't act like the fool he was, his facade may very well crumble and turn into dust and the day that happened, well Foxflame shuddered at the thought.
Find the pawholds the ginger tom climbed his way back down the tree, "Yeah yeah, to be fair it was only a bird," he meowed dismissively. He knew Stormrelic was right but that didn't mean he had to necessarily care, making his paw over to the tossed sparrow Foxflame turned it, the only thing wrong with it was a few disarrayed feathers.
