A ginger tabby she-cat sat at the edge of the streams, her blue eyes focused on the water. Flameheart watched as the water still rushed by, even under the layer of ice. She noticed a few flits of silver, fish still swimming despite the cold temperatures. The young medicine cat was lost in her own thoughts, her mind focusing on nothing particular, simply enjoying the peace by the stream.

Silver scales glinted in the sunlight, shimmering like crystals. The fish arched through the sky, and as it fell Ottertail lashed out at it, catching the prey cleanly with his deft claws. Rolling onto his back, he laughed happily, feeling at home for the first time in a while. It was nice not to have to pretend to be happy around his Clanmates. He liked to just be himself, even if it was lonely at times.
"You still have us, Otter!" Ottertail smiled, imagining his friend, Bluebell, sitting with a kind smile on her face. Bluebell had long grey fur and while her eye color changed, he liked to think that they were a vibrant blue, like the flower he had named her after. Beside Bluebell, Ottertail's best male friend, Tangledpath, sat with his sarcastic grin plastered on his face.
"Yeah. Did you think you could get rid of us?" The tom teased. Ottertail sighed and laid his prey down on the bank.
"You guys aren't real, you know." He said sadly. He looked up but the two had vanished, leaving him alone. He couldn't think of what they would say to that. And if he didn't give them words, they were just nonexistent thoughts in his head, weren't they? Ottertail closed his eyes and for a moment felt miserably sad and alone. Then he noticed a faint scent on the wind. Looking up, he caught sight of a small red shape downriver. He buried his face in his paws, rolling so that his back was to whoever it was. Great, he thought, If they heard me my Clanmates will know I'm completely out of my mind. Ottertail sighed, wishing he had a real friend to comfort him, and not some dumb figments of his imagination.

Flameheart heard something from downstream that drew her from her thoughts. She turned her gaze from the river in the direction of the voice, and noticed the outline of a warrior. She got up from her position beside the river and padded towards the warrior, who she quickly recognized as Ottertail. "Hello Ottertail" she mewed, a bright smile on her face.

Ottertail kept himself calm, even though he wanted to flinch at the sound of a voice over his shoulder. He rolled onto his belly and stood up, his green eyes flickering nervously. It was good that it was Flameheart, the medicine cat, instead of one of his fellow warriors. He'd be too embarrassed that they would judge him. Even so, he worried that Flameheart had heard him talking to Bluebell and Tangledpath. He managed to smile easily, though, looking deceptively happy. It was one of the things he was good at - hiding his true feelings from everyone.
"Hi, Flameheart. How's it going?" He asked cheerfully.

Flameheart watched as the tom got to his paws. "Everything's going great" she mewed. "Hows it going with you?" she asked. She felt kind of bad for Ottertail, it seemed like he was always by himself, and she didn't understand why. Every time she had talk to the tom they had got along well and she had enjoyed them.

Ottertail smiled easily, falling into his role as he always did. It wasn't quite pretend; he really was a very optimistic, fun-loving cat. But sometimes it was hard keeping up his cheerful attitude when it seemed that no one cared about him.
"It's all good," he meowed, the lie flowing smoothly, "I was just doing some hunting." He noted, gesturing towards the fish he'd left lying on the bank.

"Looks like you got a lot" Flameheart mewed, looking at the gestured pile. "Would you like some company?" she asked, sitting and folding her tail over her paws. She was hoping to get to know the tom more, she was getting kind of lonely being around herbs all day.
((Horrible post))

Ottertail resisted the urge to sigh in frustration. He'd rather be alone with his imaginary friends than with someone who just wanted to pity him for being by himself. He doubted Flameheart would be the kind to judge, so she must just be there for some charity case. But he plastered on his usual fake smile and inclined his head.
"Sure," he meowed, "Maybe I could teach you a few tricks." He meowed.
