ShadowClan's camp was teeming with noise and commotion. The daily patrols were being organized, and several apprentices were mock fighting in front of their dens, waiting for their mentors to come and take them out for training. A tortoiseshell she-cat sat curled up in front of the medicine cat's den, her tail tucked neatly around her forepaws. Her leg was sore--still too injured for her to be out of camp. But she hoped to get to go on patrol soon. It did not do to be shut up all the time. Especially now that... Shadowcross blushed, thinking of her admiration for a certain young tom and her excitement at the idea of spending more time with him. They were never alone, what with all the company the medicine den brought. She wanted nothing more than to talk with him where cats were not gawking at the fact that the Clan's most common bickerers were actually getting along now.

A snowshoe tom with bright blue eyes slipped from the warriors den. Dawn light warmed his pelt as he padded towards the fresh kill pile. He had promised a certain she-cat he would visit today and he wouldn't go back on that promise. Tidalwave studied to fresh kill pile before selecting a squirrel and a vole.
He padded towards the medicine cat's den, the fresh kill dangling from his jaws. He placed the squirrel at Shadowcross' paws and layed down across from her. "Good morning Shadowcross" he mewed, smiling brightly. "How is your leg feeling today?" he asked.

Shadowcross spotted Tidalwave the moment he emerged. She watched him with a calm expression on her face as he crossed the camp, grabbed some fresh kill, and made her way back towards her. Her heart, though, was pattering like raindrops, and she shifted anxiously as he came closer.
"Hi," she meowed in response to his greeting. "My leg feels just fine." She smiled slightly, the sort of sarcastic smile that was characteristic of her personality. She gestured to the squirrel with her tail, "Thanks for the food."

"No problem" Tidalwave mewed. "If your legs feeling okay, do you think you'd be up for a little walk around camp today?" he asked. He had been helping Shadowcross take some small walks, to help her get used to putting weight on it again. He also did it because he knew she hated being cooped up and a walk around camp was betting than laying around the den.

Shadowcross poked at the squirrel thoughtfully. She really wanted to go outside the camp, but she knew that might be a bit far. So she contented herself and said, "That sounds like a good idea."

"Great" he mewed. Tidalwave loved his walks with Shadowcross, it allowed him to be close to the she-cat. "Are you just going to poke your squirrel all day or are you going to eat it?" he asked playfully before taking a bite of his vole.

Shadowcross glanced at Tidalwave and smiled sarcastically. It was the exact smile she had used around him before she had fallen in love with him--back when she had loathed him for some reason that she had forgotten. It probably had been petty and unimportant, as many of her quarrels tended to be.
"Oh, I intend to make sure you haven't laced it with poppy seeds so that I'll fall asleep and you can go out gallivanting through the forest without any guilt of leaving me to fend by myself," she meowed with an air of suspicion, and then her expression broke and she laughed.

Tidalwave smiled as Shadowcross laughed, it was a beautiful sound. "Mousedung, you caught me" he mewed, winking playfully. "I was really looking forward to gallivanting through the forest guilt free" he added.

Shadowcross smirked at him and gave him a teasing poke on the shoulder with her tail.
"And now you'll just have to suffer in perpetual boredom with me," she meowed. "Too bad." The she-cat felt the stares of some of her Clanmates and turned her gaze upon them. They flinched at her hard, unemotional look, and turned away. She did not want to be gawked at, and the presence of her Clanmates, always prying into her business and seeing everything that happened, was beginning to annoy her.

"Well I suppose this could be worse" he mewed "it could be raining out." Tidalwave loved that they could still tease and bother each other the way they used to while still being in love. He noticed her looking at their clanmates and shook his head, he wished they would mind their own business. "Just ignore them, they're just jealous that I'm talking to such a beautiful she-cat" he said.

Shadowcross turned back to Tidalwave, trying not to look as irritated as she felt.
"I think they're just trying to look for the latest Clan gossip," she meowed harshly, "Don't they have anything better to do?" She hadn't really noticed, in her anger, that he had paid her a compliment.

"Yeah, they do, but they're not doing it" Tidalwave mewed. He didn't like seeing Shadowcross so irritated, she was so annoyed that she didn't even acknowledge what he said. "So we just need to ignore them, and they'll find something else to focus on" he said.

Tidalwave's words were sensible, which only made Shadowcross feel worse. She took a deep breath and turned back to her squirrel. Before she could say something else she took a big bite and contented herself with chewing it slowly. In situations like these it was probably best to keep her mouth shut, anyways. She had a tendency to get angry over the smallest things. Perhaps that is why she had led Tidalwave irritate her once. Of course, she had been convinced then that he was just another arrogant tom with no sense and no true curtesy. But she'd been quite wrong, and knew it now. She felt her anger ebb away as she chewed, and was glad of that, at least.

Tidalwave didn't try and break Shadowcross' silence, instead he took another bite of his vole. He hoped she would calm down soon, he hated seeing her like this. At one time he lived for it, but that was only because she irritated him back. Now, he wants to see her happy more than anything, she was always prettier when she smiled.

Shadowcross finished the squirrel off relatively quickly. Then she stood, wincing at the stiffness of her muscles. She couldn't wait to get out into the forest again and stretch them out. But it would have to wait a little longer. The she-cat turned to her companion and gave a small, tight smile.
"Shall we be off, then?" she meowed, wanting to move out of the line of sight of the gossipmongers surrounding them.

Tidalwave finished off his vole as Shadowcross finished her own breakfast. He got to his paws, smiling at the she-cat. He took his place at her side, offering her some support. "Lead the way" he mewed.

Shadowcross did so, taking a steady pace around the outskirts of the camp. She avoided most oft the crowded areas, and moved through some of the rushes that bordered the camp, where they were not too thick. Her leg wasn't so sore that it made her limp anymore, but it was not back to its full strength, and wouldn't be until she exercised it some more. It was nice to have Tidalwave's company, and his strong shoulder to lean on when she found it hard to navigate a certain patch of rough terrain. Shadowcross was content to muse in thought, and walked mostly in silence.

Tidalwave followed Shadowcross' steady pace. He enjoyed being able to press against her as they walked, avoiding highly populated areas. He knew that most of the cats were probably watching them, but he ignored it, focused solely on the presence at his side. He was happy to walk in complete silence with her if thats what she wanted. He was just happy he could be close to her.

Shadowcross stopped near the entrance of the camp. She wanted more than anything to go out for a run, to stretch her muscles and legs again in that way she was prone to do before her accident. She wanted to climb up the pine trees after squirrels and dove into the needles at the bases of the trunks in search of a burrowing vole. Her instincts, her warrior blood, raged within her and she was sure that she would go mad if she were cooped up much longer. She studied the entrance to the camp with a longing expression. Her patience was certainly wearing thin. When would she get to be free again? it wasn't at all fair that she should be so cooped up. But at least my leg is healing and I can still walk, she thought. It could have been worse.

Tidalwave paused when Shadowcross did. He took in her longing expression as she gazed at the camp entrance. He knew she was itching to get back out into the forest after being cooped up in camp for a couple moons now. "Did you want me to ask if I can take you just outside camp tomorrow for a bit?" he asked the she-cat.

Shadowcross' ear twitched when she heard Tidalwave's voice. She turned slightly and looked at him. Had he noticed her feelings? He did seem to know how she felt most of the time. His perception was perhaps one of his traits that had annoyed her before. She only found it reassuring now.
"I sure would like to get out of here for a bit," she meowed, trying not to sound sulky.

"Then I'll see what I can do" Tidalwave mewed, smiling at her. "You've been stuck in here for too long in my opinion" he added "you deserve to get out for a bit."

Shadowcross felt a deep sense of gratitude towards the tom. She was happy that he was so considerate of her. Most other cats would tell her to stop complaining and take advantage of the period of rest she was given. But what they failed to understand--while it appeared Tidalwave did--was that she could not be happy unless she was being of use to someone.
"Thank you," she meowed, leaning a little to one side to give his muzzle a quick lick. She flushed hotly and felt embarrassed at her actions, but a small, shy part of her had wanted to do it and she had given it. I've never felt like this before. She thought. It's almost too strange...

"You're welcome" Tidalwave mewed. He was caught a little off guard by the lick she placed on his muzzle. He smiled and returned the gesture. It felt amazing having this kind of closeness with Shadowcross, he had never felt happier.

When Tidalwave kissed her cheek Shadowcross thought her fur must be on fire. She twitched her tail a couple of times nervously, while her expression changed back and forth from pleased to worried. At that moment she was grateful that no other cats were looking at her, or she would have thought she'd explode.
"Yeah, well, um... yeah. Let's just... keep walking, then..." she meowed, scuffling her paws as she rushed forwards a little too quickly. Her leg hurt but it only caused her to limp a little before she slowed down again.
