Twistpaw heard the she-cat's words as he was just falling into the depths of sleep. He slept peacefully, thoughts of their future in his mind.
Twistpaw's eyes fluttered open as the poppy seeds finally wore off. "Morning" he mewed sleepily to Mysticpaw. His heart soared as he remembered the words she whispered in his ear before he drifted off.

Mysticpaw grinned as she heard the Tomcat's tired greeting, although it was the inappropriate time of day for that type of greeting. "Good extremely late evening. It is nearly Midnight Twistpaw," she purred and stood. Mysticpaw stretched and sat near the exit, looking up at Silverpelt. "All of StarClan is looking down upon us, watching each success and each mistake. Their words aren't ever clear, more like a painting across the nighttime sky," she looked back at Twistpaw with a warm smile. "My parents are up there," she mewed softly and turned her head back to the sky.

Twistpaw shrugged at her words. "Not my fault someone gave me too many poppy seeds" he said teasingly. He watched as she moved to the entrance of her den, staring up at StarClan.
Twistpaw felt a twinge of sadness at the mention of parents. He didn't remember much about them, except for the fact that he saw them get slaughtered by a badger trying to protect him. "I hope my parents are up there" he murmured "I miss them."

Mysticpaw froze at Twistpaw's obvious sadness. "They are, trust me. Every cat that has a good soul goes to StarClan," Mysticpaw tilted her head in order for Twistpaw to come have a seat by her. "Your parents are up there, as are mine," she meowed quietly. Mysticpaw felt a sudden wave of relaxation and resolve when she looked up at Silverpelt. Maybe it was because she knew that there was at least one cat who was always looking down at her, acknowledging her existence, guiding her along this twisted life that she has had as of late. "You know Twistpaw, our parents are probably up in Silverpelt watching down on us right now," she gave a warm smile to reassure him that his parents were safely in StarClan.

Twistpaw smiled at her words as he slowly got up to go and join her. He looked up at the glittering stars in Silverpelt, praying that his mother and father were there. "I hope you're right" he mewed looking at her with his yellow-orange gaze. "I wonder if they've ever met each other" he murmured, looking back to the sky.

Mysticpaw chuckled at Twistpaw, "Of course they've met silly." She leaned into him and let out a soft purr. The young she-cat was thinking about how wonderful it felt to be this close to Twistpaw, his warmth radiating through his fur. "I've been thinking lately, and mainly today," she paused and shifted her weight, "I will eventually have to make a choice, and I think I already know what my only true and reasonable option is." She sighed as she looked around the Clan grounds and there wasn't a single soul awake. She enjoyed the quiet, but the alone feeling that she would always get. "Twistpaw, when you get the chance, during any night that you can, would you accompany me in my den?" she asked hopefully.

Twistpaw nuzzled Mysticpaw, feeling an answering purr rumble through his chest. He was content just sitting here looking up at Silverpelt, with her at his side.
He listened as she spoke about the future and the choices. He knew what choice she was going to make eventually, even though he wished she would keep to her path, it made her happy.
"I'd love to accompany you in your den" he mewed, placing an affectionate lick on her muzzle.

Mysticpaw's cheeks flooded red under her silver coat when Twistpaw licked her as tenderly as he did. "Twistpaw, you do realize the choice that I'm talking about right?" She asked him, her sapphire gems glistening in the starlight. "Whether I give up my life for you, so we can have a life, or I stay with my life now. Solely devout to StarClan and helping Clanmates." She didn't want to have to say it but in a way she knew that she had to, just so it would set into her body.

Twistpaw nodded in response to her question. "I know" he mewed. "And you need to know that whatever choice you make, I will still be by your side" he said "I could never leave you." He turned his gaze to her, his eyes showing how he meant every word he said.

Mysticpaw almost froze completely when he said that he could never leave her. She didn't want to have to tell him but it was inevitable. She knew that her choice was obviously going to be StarClan. She would chose Starclan a thousand times over even if she was being tortured and mess of blood and fur. Her loyalty was always to StarClan, they've guided her since kit-hood. She turned her face from Twistpaw, "I know that you would never leave me Twistpaw," she mewed solemnly, "I, however, will eventually have to leave you." The words that were coming from her mouth were sincere, even if they stung as they took their leave from her tongue.
Mysticpaw turned around and padded back into her den, took a look at the pile of herbs and sighed. The young she-cat's azure eyes closed with a silver cover, then she opened them again slowly, taking a breath. Her silver body swayed as she walked over to her resting place. Mysticpaw took a breath and plopped down, her mind was too flooded with too many things for her to even think about any of the new topics coming into her head. She didn't want to have to say goodbye to Twistpaw, but once it came down to it, she would always pick StarClan. Always.

Twistpaw smiled sadly at her. "I know that you will always choose StarClan" he mewed. "But you will still have me, I can still be your best friend, right?" he asked hopefully.
He watched as she turned away from him and moved farther into her den. He noticed her collapse into her nest and just left the conversation at that. "Night Mysticpaw" he mewed, moving to the nest she gave him. He settled down, keeping his eyes trained on the camp outside.

Mysticpaw looked over at Twistpaw as he lied down in his bed. "Yes, we can still be best friends, we just can't be anything more than that Twistpaw," the silver tabby she-cat curled up, lying there thinking about the old topics that were in her head. She realized how nothing was going to work for Twistpaw or herself. Fixing her azure gaze onto the pile of herbs and tried to focus on her first challenge that she was preoccupied with before the tortoiseshell tom limped into her den.
She knew that there wasn't the slightest chance of sleep tonight, not with Twistpaw being right across from her, reminding her of what she can't have. Mysticpaw had an idea of what StarClan was doing to her, or at least a pleasant story in her mind so she could have someone to blame. They were simply testing her loyalty, and making sure that she was worthy to be a medicine cat. 'StarClan, speak to me...please' she made a silent plea to her only mentor for guidance. Mysticpaw closed her eyes and drifted into a Twilight type dream.
'Mysticpaw," a soft, yet assertive, voice called from within the darkness.
The young she-cat was looking around, but could not find a soul, only hear a voice calling to her. "Yes?" she asked in return, "...Who's there?" She stopped and relayed the voice into her mind. "Mom...is that you?" Her gaze grew wide when her mother stepped into her view.
"Mysticpaw, listen to me...You cannot love Twistpaw," Streampelt mewed in a motherly yet demanding tone.
"Why not Momma? It does no harm to anyone!" pleaded the young she-cat. She couldn't believe what her mother was saying. Not love him....? Not love him? It tore her because she knew that her mother was correct.
"You know why Mysticpaw. Besides,"she paused, "there will be another in your life." Streampelt leaned closer to Mysticpaw. "I love you my daughter and I wish I could say more but my time here is over," she gave her daughter a lick on the forehead, which Mysticpaw gladly accepted, and vanished.
Mysticpaw jolted awake from her awkward dream and looked around, panting. "There will be another....?" she mewed under her breath.

"I know" he whispered in reply. Twistpaw sighed, and stared out at Silverpelt. Why can't I ever have anything good in my life? he asked silently. His life had always been shrowded in sadness and loneliness until Mysticpaw. "And i'll never have her either" he reminded himself quietly.

Mysticpaw looked over at Twistpaw as he spoke silently, she knew it wasn't directed at her so she just went back to thinking, her mind now clearer. It did, however, stay strongly onto the subject of 'There will be another' and what that could possibly mean. "Maybe it means that there will be another person in my life...?" She muttered staring at her paws. She gave a soft sigh and looked around her den and back to the pile herbs. "Hey Twistpaw...are you asleep yet?" she mewed softly to her den companion.

Twistpaw was still staring out at the stars, a sad look on his face. "I love you" he murmered quietly, knowing that she wouldn't want to hear those words now.
His ears perked up at the sound of Mysticpaw's voice. "Yeah, I'm awake" he replied.

Mysticpaw smiled warmly at her friend. "Twistpaw, you need to get some sleep. It is almost Sunrise," her mewl was demanding and she curled up in her own little ball and yawned. "Gosh I'm tired...I'll worry about 'the other one' later," she thought about what her mother said and closed her eyes, but sleep was not coming to her. She lied there as the sun began to hit her body, making her pelt shine in it's vivacious glow. Her eyes opened, squinting them in the new found light. "Well nevermind, I'm worrying about it now I guess..." she grumbled, stood up and stretched. Mysticpaw walked out of her den and looked around at the dew that laid itself upon the camp.

"Fine I will" he mewed. Twistpaw lowered his head to rest on his good paw and allowed his orange-yellow eyes to slide shut. He slowly drifted off to sleep in the beams of the early morning sun.
