The sound of dripping filled the tunnels, echoing along with the thunder of the Twoleg monsters overhead. A dark shape slid through the slimy darkness, and with a flash of gold two amber eyes stared out at the sunlight just ahead, the pupils dilating in response to the sun's rays. The huge tomcat slipped out of the tunnels and into a clearing that had little grass save for a few dried stubs. He shook out his thick tabby fur, his eyes casting a glance around him. Is she here? He wondered thoughtfully. He'd been looking long enough. Renegade flicked his ear and stretched. A ripple of silver and gold passed over his pelt, accentuating the muscles in his powerful body. Oh well. He could wait a little longer. The day was fine, and Leafbare hadn't yet made him irritable with lack of food and warmth. Plus, it was his first Leafbare in a long time spent with another. Well, that is, if he could find her...

A ginger she-cat sat a few foxlengths from the tunnels, waiting. Sparkheart's amber gaze was looking for Renegade, he said he was going to meet her there. Just then she saw the muscualr tom emerge from the tunnels and look around. She quietly slunk towards him, pausing by his shoulder. "Looking for someone?" she asked.

Renegade started, not having heard her apprentice. Sparkheart was the one cat that could easily sneak up on him, and to that day he still couldn't figure why exactly. He looked into her eyes and felt his heart stutter in his chest. A slight smile crept over his features, making him look less surly.
"As a matter of fact, I was." He meowed with mock severity.

"Oh really" she mewed "and who would that be?" She sat down in front of him, curling her tail over her paws. There was something about Renegade that made her feel fuzzy inside and special. He was also the only one who could make her smile when she was feeling down.

Renegade frowned thoughtfully.
"Well," he meowed, "She's probably the most beautiful she-cat I've ever seen before. She has the softest fur. The sweetest scent. The prettiest eyes. She's practically a goddess." He meowed with a firm nod, as if reassuring himself that his description was accurate.

Sparkheart's heart swelled with emotion at Ren's statement. She had never thought of herself as any of those things. "Well she must be a lucky she-cat" she mewed "attracting the attention of such a handsome, strong, charming and carinf tom."

Renegade looked into Sparkheart's eyes and smiled.
"I think we're both lucky." He said in a soft voice, touching his muzzle to hers. He felt warmth fill his chest, making him feel so... alive. He'd suffered a lot in his younger years, never feeling loved or respected. But Sparkheart had come along and changed all that. She'd brought him back to himself, and she showed him that there was hope for him.
"I love you," Renegade whispered to her, wishing she could truly deeply understand how desperately he needed her, how he couldn't live without her smile, her voice, her warmth...

Sparkheart stared into Renegade's eyes and smiled brightly.
"I agree" she mewed. She felt warmth bloom in her chest when their muzzles touched. She has suffered a lot in her life but Renegade was the light in it now. A lot happened between them but they were still able to share such a profound bond and it made her happy.
Nothing made her feel like those words did, there was no way to describe it. "I love you too" she whispered.

Renegade sighed, as if relieved to hear the words coming from her. Perhaps it was because all of his attachments had proved to be one-sided, that he'd always loved and the other had always left him behind. But Sparkheart wouldn't do that. They belonged together. Renegade buried his face in the fur of her neck, not wanting her to see the expression he was trying so hard to hide. What would he do if she left? He'd die. How could he bear to be left behind again? He took a deep breath, filling his nose with his mate's scent, as if trying to reassure himself that she was real, was right beside him and would never leave.

Sparkheart nuzzled the top of Renegade's head. She loved these moments when they could just be together and not have to say anything. She was glad that after everything that came between them and tried to rip them apart yet they still managed to get back together.

Renegade took one last, deep breath, then pulled back and smiled, looking into Sparkheart's eyes. He felt giddy, like a kit. Everything inside of him was warmed by the sight of his mate, so beautiful and spunky and just perfect.
"So what shall we do today?" He asked playfully, flicking his short tail back and forth, his eyes sparkling.

Sparkheart returned Renegade's gaze, a smile on her face. She pondered Radge's question for a moment before a mischievous smile graced her maw. She tapped him on the shoulder with her tail. "Tag, you're it" she mewed before dashing off.

Renegade sighed and laughed, shaking his head as he darted after her.
"This again?" He called after her, "When will you learn that I never will actually catch you?" But he ran anyway, simply to be near her, to feel reassured that she wouldn't run away from him.

"Yes, this again" she called back. "And you'll catch me one time" she said. Sparkheart slowed her pace a bit to allow Ren to catch up. "Come on slowpoke" she taunted.

Renegade sprinted forward, willing his already tired limbs to move, propelling him foreward. His stomach seemed to clench and burn, a constant reminder that he wasn't built for running, and certainly not a lot of running.
"Alright, then," he huffed, leaping towards her, "You asked for it!"

Sparkheart picked up her pace a bit. Hoping to outrun him for a little longer. She was to caught up in avoiding Ren that she didn't hear his comment or see him leap.

Renegade flew towards her, feeling confident for once that maybe he'd be able to catch her in his arms and hold her. He hooked his paws around her shoulders, turning so that his weight brought her on top of him instead of him on her. He didn't want to hurt Sparkheart, he just wanted to finally show her that she couldn't run away from him.

Sparkheart was caught off guard when she was flipped. One moment she was running and the next her paws were in the air. "Good catch" she mewed.

Renegade lay on his back with Sparkheart held close to him, feeling her warmth and the soft hum of her chest as she spoke, her voice bright and near. He looked up into her face, then leaned forward and drew his tongue carressingly against her cheek. He leaned back and gave her a soft smile, feeling love filling his heart and warming him to the center of his being.

Sparkheart looked down into Renegade's eyes, a bright grin on her face. She felt her cheeks heat up at the loving touch. She still got embaressed at Ren's gentle treatment at times. She leaned down and placed a lick of her own on his cheek. "I love you" she whispered.

Sparkheart blushed at this. She never felt important before, only when she was with Renegade. She always felt indescribable emotions when she was with him, all good.
"You're my world" she mewed, placing an affectionate lick on his maw.

Renegade couldn't speak. He felt as if something were lodged in his throat, and all he could do was duck his head, feeling overwhelmed by emotion at Sparkheart's words. He managed a shy grin up at her and then said;
"So. Are we going to stay like this all day or are we going to take our walk?" He asked. "Not that I mind so much." He added mischeviously.

Sparkheart watched as he shyly smiled away. She loved that she could reduce the brave tough tom to such an innocent state. "Hm... I don't know" she mewed "you're kind of comfy and I could go for a nap." She lowered her head to his chest before closing her amber eyes and feigning sleep.
