Mottledfur had been asked to take a patrol, and was looking for Badgerfrost and Autumnpaw. She wanted to see how her apprentice was progressing, and thought Badgerfrost was a perfect for another companion. "Badgerfrost? Autumnpaw?" She called, poking her head in the warriors den and the apprentice den to check.

-Badgerfrost-
Badgerfrost pricked his ears as he heard his name being called as well as Autumnpaw's. He yawned, revealing dangerous canine teeth. Before getting up from his nap, he stretched out his front limbs then his back limbs, rolling his shoulders so they weren't stiff. Hauling himself out of his nest, he trotted over to Mottledfur, wondering what she wanted, he guessed it was probably a patrol. "Yes?" he asked hiding the slightly annoyed tone as he was woken from his nap. Thinking absently, he remembered he had hardly done anything yesterday so he shouldn't be complaining.

"You wanna go on a patrol with Autumnpaw and me?" Mottledfur asked excitedly. She was eager to be out of camp and her tail flicked with her pent-up energy. She didn't know Badgerfrost too well, but she was always friendly and thought he might like to get out of camp. Besides, he wasn't doing anything.

-Badgerfrost-
Badgerfrost nodded eagerly, realising how itching he was to get out of camp. "Autumnpaw is your apprentice, right?" he asked randomly, he hadn't had an apprentice of his own yet and reckoned this could be could practise for the future. Badgerfrost also noticed how excited Mottledfur was, they didn't know eachother well so he had no idea why she would be so excited to spend a patrol with him. Dismissing thetoght he carried on intently looking at the camp exit, letting the fresh territory air roll to his nose, engulfing him.

"Autumnpaw is indeed my apprentice." Mottledfur said. "She's a good cat too." She said. She really liked her apprentice. She was glad to have an apprentice, and knew Badgerfrost didn't have one yet, but thought he might like to lend her a paw in helping assess Autumnpaw. It wasn't an official assessment, but an opportunity for the young apprentice to show her skills.

-Badgerfrost-
Flicking his gaze back to Mottledfur, he nodded at her comments about her apprentice. "Alright then," he meowed "I'll come with you, but where exactly is Autumnpaw? Badgerfrost tipped his head, his eyes glistening with curiosity, of course he knew what happened at training from his experiences as an apprentice, but he wanted to know what it was like from the mentor's perspective.

"I have no idea. She might be with Flickerpaw." Mottledfur thought. She knew Autumnpaw liked to be with Flickerpaw. Those two were growing really close. Mottledfur just hoped it wouldn't interfere with the young she-cats training, but actually, it seemed to be helping Flickerpaw, who was nolonger the complaining and pessimistic cat he was before.

-Badgerfrost-
"Oh" was the only word he spoke as he veiled his dissappointment, he didn't have the full patience to be waiting around for an apprentice to come to their own training. Sighing, he sat down, curling his tail around his paws and began to groom his black fur.

Mottledfur realized Autumnpaw wasn't in camp, but she spotted Flickperpaw returning with fresh kill. "Flickerpaw, have you seen Autumnpaw?" "Yea, do you need her?" "Sure, go see if you can find her and tell her to come join us. We'll be at the fallen tree." Mottledfur said. "Alright Mottledfur." "Well, we can go, she'll meet us when she can, and if she can't, I'll just take her another time." Mottledfur said, turning back to Badgerfrost.

The camp was bustling with activity, and Autumnpaw was just coming out of the Elder's den after cleaning some old moss out when she heard her mentor's voice. She attributed it to her good hearing, since Mottledfur was near the apprentice's den, talking to Flickerpaw. She pelted forward, her almost blood-red eyes alight with excitement.
"I'm coming, Mottledfur!" She called breathlessly.

"Oh good, common, we're going on a patrol." Mottledfur said, flicking her tail. "Better get rid of that moss first though."

Autumnpaw smiled up at her mentor, not a bit abashed that she'd appeared still tussled from her battle with the old bedding in the Elder's den. She bounced from paw to paw, her excitement bubbling up at the chance to go out and train.
"Okay, let's go!" Autumnpaw exclaimed eagerly.

-Badgerfrost-
Badgerfrost raised an eyewhisker, this apprentice had energy and was determined, it surprised him, he hated patrolling when he was an apprentice. "Alright" he said with mild interest, "Mottledfur, you lead". He signalled with his tail for her to go ahead, then nodded to Autumnpaw in greeting.

"Alright, we're going over by the river." Mottledfur said. She bounded off, energy rippling through her like a storm building in intensity. She wasn't going too too fast, not wanted to outdistance them, but she was still hurrying a little.

Not in much of a rush, Badgerfrost trotted at a decent speed after her, he didn't want to tire himself out straight away. He knew how boring patrol's could be, so he may aswell preserve his energy.

Mottledfur led them to the River and started to sniff around for anything out of the ordinary. Foxes, badgers, bad cats... Anything they might encounter that wouldn't be so pleasant. Then she looked to Autumnpaw. "So what do you scent?" She asked, giving Autumnpaw a chance to show her scenting abilities.

Autumnpaw raced after her mentor, then slowed to keep more of a pace with Badgerfrost. She had long, strong limbs, so running wasn't at all a problem for her - even when she was with cats that outsized her in mass. As she stopped beside her mentor, Autumnpaw raised her face to the wind, parting her jaws as she drank in the deep scents of the forest.
"Some Twolegs were playing here recently, I think. But the scent is stale." She paused, taking in some more scents, studying them. She frowned.
"And there's a cat-scent... that's unfamiliar. It's weird." She mewed thoughtfully. The scent reminded her of SkyClan's but had a tinge of wildness and crowfood to it. Her fur bristled. Somehow she had a horrible feeling in her gut that whoever it was wasn't just here to hunt or play around.

((Ha ha, thank you Lion))
Mottledfur narrowed her eyes and opened her maw to scent deeper. Then she scented the cat Autumnpaw was talking about. "Seems we really do have someone sneaking around. We'll have to report this to Songstar."

-Badgerfrost-
Badgerfrost listened intently to Autumnpaw's analysis of the scents, flickering his ears in curiosity as she mentioned a strange scent. He decided to lift his head and drink in the scents, he turned to Mottledfur and bristled ever so slightly, "If I find that cat, they'd wish they hadn't set paws on our territory". Badgerfrost said these words in a fierce spit, but he seemed fairly relaxed about the threat, which wasn't unusual for a cat of his skill. "No one messes with SkyClan." he continued.

Autumnpaw looked up at her mentor, frowning slightly.
"You don't think they're just here to check out the Clan?" She asked timidly. Many cats stayed in the Clan to learn SkyClan ways, but only so many stayed. But if this was the case, why did she feel so uneasy? Maybe it was her gut telling her that this wasn't so normal as a curious cat peeking around the territory.

"Autumnpaw, Siennapaw found a map of our camp carved into the ground under a bush. There were claw marks over a den, I think this cat means business." Mottledfur meowed softly. She knew this was hard for the apprentice, since their were rarely any threats to their clan. In fact, more often then not, they got along well with other cats.

Autumnpaw nodded, looking around her and trying to find some proof of this map-scratching intruder. She hadn't expected it to be anyone innocently exploring. There was something too cold and calculating about the movements of the cat that could warrant that. But what should she do? She turned to her mentor, eyes wide.
"So wait... does this cat want to hurt someone in the Clan?" She asked, startled by the thought.

"Well, I don't suppose they're just here to say 'Hi'." he stated bluntly, he was far from thrilled that there was yet more proof of the shifty intruder.
Badgerfrost's pelt prickled with the craving of a fight, he couldn't wait to sink his claws into that mange bag. Suddenly, before anyone could say much more, he said, "We should move on, we're wasting daylight"

"Right, where does the scent lead Autumnpaw?" Mottledfur asked. She didn't really want to confront the stranger, just keep tabs on his locations so her report to Songstar was thorough.

Autumnpaw lifted her muzzle to the wind, sniffing. She padded forward and put her nose to the bank of the river. Then, without a word, she plunged into water. It was freezing and went up to her shoulders. She winced, struggling to get a pawhold in the rough current. As soon as her claws had a hold on the slippery riverbed, she made her way across to the other side, shaking her fur out like a dog as she reached the other end. She commenced with sniffing along the bank. She looked up and called over to her mentor;
"The scent picks up over here. Whoever it is crossed the river and went towards that other twolegplace." She meowed.
