Lastsong glanced at Siennapaw, feeling proud of her memory. She really would be a great apprentice... He turned back to Songstar.
"If you don't mind, I'll leave the Clan to you, Songstar. I will try to speak with our ancestors at the Whispering Cave tonight and see if they know of the danger." He paused, glancing at Siennapaw again before turning back to his leader, "And I have a small request."

Autumnpaw looked into Mottledfur's eyes, trying to read if there was any immediate danger threatening the Clan. She saw nothing but a bit of anxiousness, so she decided now was not the time for panic. She took a deep breath and cast a weak smile towards Flickerpaw, glad of his presence in this unnerving moment.

Siennapaw blurted out before she could think. "You should be accompanied to the cave." She told Lastsong. "By at least one warrior." She added. Then she realized she was only an apprentice and ducked her head, pinning her ears back with embarrassment. "Oops, sorry." She said, grinning nervously.
Flickerpaw stayed close to Autumnpaw as they continued on. "You are a good hunter." He said, trying to get her mind off of things.
Mottledfur returned to where Songstar and Lastsong were, but stayed back to let them talk alone. Well, Siennapaw was still there, but Mottledfur suspected thats right where Lastsong wanted her.

Lastsong smiled a bit at the apprentice's eager statement.
"Actually," he meowed, "I was wondering if, since Siennapaw doesn't have a mentor, you could lend her to me temporarily. I'd like a cat that can help me and potentially help the Clan if anything... happens." He meowed hesitantly. He knew he was basically saying that he would train Siennapaw so that if he was killed by this mysterious assailant, the Clan wouldn't be without a medicine cat. But perhaps this was his way of getting the apprentice he wanted without feeling like he was pressuring either Siennapaw or his leader. Either way, it was what he wanted.

Autumnpaw smiled.
"So are you." She said quietly, flicking his shoulder with her tail tip playfully.

Siennapaw's eyes went wide. "I'd love to!" She said. She realized she was interrupting again and quickly sat down, closing her mouth, and trying to be the model of a good apprentice, but she looked at Lastsong with shining eyes, trying to say thank you.
Flickerpaw lowered his head in embarrassment. "You're better though, but you're older than I am." He said, trying to compromise on the compliments.

Songstar listened as Lastsong outlined her plan. She watched in amusement as Siennapw spoke eagerly before shying away. She listened to Lastsong's request and thought about it. She noticed that Siennapaw was interested and thought that a medicine cat apprentice was a good idea. "I know what you're asking and yes you can take her on as an apprentice" she mewed "I think it's a great idea."

Lastsong dipped his head, relieved that no cat seemed to have problems with the idea.
"Thank you, Songstar," he meowed.

Autumnpaw glanced at Flickerpaw and smiled.
"Yeah, so if I'm older I should be better, right? If it wasn't, I'd have some self-esteem issues hanging around with you." She mewed, playfully nudging him. She liked how Flickerpaw was modest and not at all cocky like some toms tended to be. He was turning out to be a better friend than Autumnpaw could have imagined, and now even thinking about the possibility of not having him by her side was painful.

"YES!" Siennapaw sprang into the air with a yowl. Everyone else in the clearing looked over in surprised. Nevermind she'd just scared off all the prey in Skyclan, she couldn't help but be excited.
Flickerpaw was still trying to formulate a response to Autumnpaw when Siennapaw exclaimed in jubilation. He looked at her with wide eyes before looking at Autumnpaw. "You'd think she'd just been made leader." He said, not hearing what had happened.
Mottledfur smiled at the happy apprentice before turning to Flickerpaw. "Close Flickerpaw, close." She hinted with a knowing look.

"You're welcome" Songstar mewed. "I'll announce Siennapaw's apprenticeship at our next clan meeting" she mewed. "I'm sure you'll make a great medicine cat someday" she said to Siennapaw.

Autumnpaw pricked her ears, just barely catching Songstar's words. Her eyes widened. Siennapaw was going to become a medicine cat? And she was happy about it? The young apprentice was speechless. Her sister had never seemed to have any inclination towards becomming a healer. What had changed? She looked up at Mottledfur, pondering her words. Maybe she just wants to distance herself from me? Autumnpaw thought, a sad expression crossing over her face.

Lastsong smiled at Siennapaw encouragingly, pleased that she seemed so excited to become his apprentice. He thanked StarClan that everything had worked out well. The tom couldn't even be upset at a time like this when something so wonderful had happened. Are you watching her, Softfeather? Will she become a great medicine cat like you? Lastsong thought, his eyes drifting from Siennapaw to the bright sky overhead.

Siennapaw dashed over to Autumnpaw. "Did you hear? I'm to become a medicine cat!" She cried, excitement in her eyes and stamped all over her features. Her tail was waving wildly and she was dancing on her paws. She couldn't believe it! Finally she was going to actually be a real help to the clan. Ha ha mother, I did outdo you. She thought.
Mottledfur sent Songstar a smile. She remembered their days as apprentices, always excited about each step forward.
Flickerpaw didn't know what to say, but he smiled and softly congratulated Siennapaw.

Songstar held back her mrrow of laughter at Siennapaw's excited outburst. She caught Mottledfur's smile and answered with her own. Sometimes she missed her days as an apprentice, and all the trouble she and her silblings got into.

Autumnpaw managed a smile for her sister, glad that she did look genuinely happy.
"That's great, Siennapaw. I'm happy for you." Autumnpaw meowed, her voice shaking just a little. She didn't want to admit that she would miss her sister in the den, would miss going on hunts with her or training at the clearing. But Siennapaw would always be her sister. And as long as she was happy, Autumnpaw had to be content.

Siennapaw picked up on Autumnpaw's tone. Was she really happy? Siennapaw's mind then began flooding her with doutbs. What if Autumnpaw is jealous of me? What if she doesn't think I can do this? Siennapaw murmured a thank you to Autumnpaw before walking back, a little more sullen, to Lastsong.

Lastsong watched the exchange between Autumnpaw and Siennapaw. He sensed a reluctance in the former, and was pretty sure he understood what she was feeling. He smiled at her in a friendly way.
"Don't worry, Autumnpaw, you'll still get to spend time with your sister. Being a medicine cat doesn't make one a hermit, you know." He meowed with a twitch of his whiskers. Instantly Autumnpaw's eyes lit up.
"Oh! Thanks." She mewed, looking more at ease.

Siennapaw looked up at Lastsong. "So are we going to the cave?" She asked, excitement coursing through her. She was eager to find out all about what it meant to be a medicine cat, and was even more eager to be spending more time with her new mentor. She would miss practicing battle moves with her sister, but she knew she could still do that sometimes. After all, medicine cats sometimes needed to fight too. Plus if that mysterious killer showed up she wanted to be ready.

Lastsong looked at her, his expression thoughtful.
"Yes," he said finally, winking, "I think that would be a good idea." He flicked her ear with his tail tip.
Autumnpaw watched her sister with her new mentor, feeling a bit more at ease. Siennapaw looked happy, and Lastsong was treating her sister with more warmth than any other cat ever had. Content, Autumnpaw turned back to Flickerpaw, a shy smile stretching across her face.
