Radge sat waiting for Emberpaw to creep up on him. She was learning very quickly and he could just barely hear her, but couldn't pin-point just where she was going to spring from. Had he not known she was there, he could have easily mistaken the noise for a breeze or prey, but he was prepared.

Emberpaw slowly crept through the undergrowth. She was very careful with her pawsteps, she was improving her balance all the time. She had noticed the more she practiced with Radge the less she stumbled and tripped over her own paws. Emberpaw paused behind Radge, bunching her muscles to spring. She sprung, aiming for Radge's back.

Radge was knocked against his back and the weight pinned him to the ground with his forepaws uselessly pinned under him and his face against the dirt. "You can get off." He said, though it was muffled and came out more like "moo man git ov!" He was proud of Emberpaw's progression even if it just meant he was sore more often after training. And more dirty too.

Emberpaw let out a huff of laughter. "Nah I'm rather comfy here" she mewed. She settled on Radge's back. "I think I may take a nap" she said, closing her eyes and feigning sleep.

"Emberpaw!" Radge exclaimed, though it came out more like "mmnmrrmaww!" He growled slightly, just to warn her off. Comfy as she was, he needed a breath of air.

Emberpaw huffed. "Fine" she mewed and rolled off. "Better?" she asked, taking in Radge's dirt covered form.

Radge breathed deeply, then fixed a pair of angry eyes on her. "So this is how you repay your kind mentor huh? Trying to kill him?" He asked, padding towards her with his fur raised slightly to feign aggression. His's eye's betrayed his playfulness however.

Emberpaw smirked, so he wants to play this game, I can play too.[i/] Emberpaw lowered her head and whimpered. "Sorry" she mewed sadly, choking out a few sobs for good measure. "I was just playing."

Radge was a fighter. A cat who could kill prey and fight off enemies. He had one weakness, though, and one thing that could make him nervous. Emberpaw and making her sad or disappointed. "I was just teasing!" He hastened to reassure the young cat. Then he realized he was being had and sighed. "Well, you did a good job anyway."

Emberpaw looked up and blinked the tears from her eyes. "I know" she said with a smirk on her face. "So what do you want to do now?" she asked.

Fall asleep until I'm nolonger so sore... Radge thought to himself. But he kept the remark to himself. "Up to you." He told Emberpaw. "We could hunt, practice your climbing, work on your battle moves..." Radge prayed she wouldn't pick battle moves. He was sore enough, but if she picked it, he would probably have her demonstrate the moves for awhile.

Emberpaw could see that Radge was kind of tired looking, and probably sore, they'd been doing battle moves for a while. "How about we go for a hunt" she mewed "I think I still need some practice on my techniques."

"Uh-huh." Radge agreed. "Especially when it comes to rabbits." He reminded her. She was great at mice and squirrels, but the fleet-footing rabbits were a challenge. "Remember that technique I showed you when hunting in pairs?"

"Yeah, I know" she mewed. "My paws just don't like to cooperate when I'm running" she added, an amused smile on her face. "Kind of, but its been a while" she mewed "can we go over it again?"

"Alright, so when we're hunting together one of us can frighten the rabbit and steer it into the waiting paws of the other. Since I know what I'm doing, I'll frighten, you catch." Radge said. Then he paused to sniff the air. "Once I find some prey."

"Right" she mewed "okay you go look i'll wait here." She took a seat waiting for Radge to send a rabbit her way. She hoped that she would catch it this time, last time she ended up a disasterous pile of flailing limbs, it was bad.

Radge smiled and nuzzled her cheek with his. "You'll do fine." He assured her. He stalked off quietly, search for a scent. The problem was, Emberpaw was upwind, and so he had to be careful to make sure the creature didn't scent him until he was ready. He smelled a rabbit ahead and started to circle around it. Fortunately a tree offered Radge cover until he was prepared and he sprung out at the rabbit, who fled towards Emberpaw.

Emberpaw smiled at the encouragement. She waited patiently, her senses on high alert. She caught the whiff of rabbit and saw the streak of grey fur heading her way. She bunched her muscles and sprung at the rabbit. She landed on the surprised rabbit and killed it with a swift bite to the neck. She sat back smiling, she couldn't believe she did it.

Radge trotted up and smiled as he saw the prey underneath Emberpaw's paws. "Well done!" He exclaimed happily. "Shall we eat?"

Emberpaw smiled at the praise. She nodded. "I'm starving, how long have we been training?" she asked.

"Hours now." Radge said, noting the position of the sun as the afternoon wore on. Then the smell of prey wafted past his nose and he looked back at their meal. "Well, you killed it, you get first bite." He said, though he usually gave her the first bite anyway.

"No wonder I'm tired and hungry" she mewed. Emberpaw settled in her usual spot beside Radge. She bent forward and took a bite of the rabbit, letting the delicious flavour flood her mouth.

"I was surprised you didn't mention eating sooner." Radge mentioned as he ate his first bite. It was delicious to his tired stomach. He lifted his head and closed his eyes as a light breeze blew through the tall grasses of the field. He took a deep breath, relaxing.

"I was having fun training" she mewed "I didn't feel the hunger until I stopped." She took another bite of the delicious rabbit. She settled closer to Radge, leaning on him, allowing her amber eyes to slip shut.

Radge looked down at her, though she was growing to be just as tall as him. He was glad to see the peaceful expression on her face. She was happy now - at least happier then when he had found her. He was content to just let her lean on him as they shared a peaceful break in the day.
Unfortunately it wasn't to last. Radge bristled and gave a low growl as the braying of dogs was heard. For a moment, he thought it was just the ones kept tied up by the barn.
Then the noises got louder.
